When it was announced that Justin Lin would direct Star Trek Beyond. What was the problem here? And don't use the whole "but Justin Lin directed Fast and Furious films" BS. He is a trekkie as well.

The extreme fans panic over recasting and/ or director switches. They're afraid such a change will ruin the franchise.

Not much to ruin anyway, the reboots don't really feel like Star Trek to me.

But that's pretty much it. The philisophical sci-fi of Star Trek is about as far removed from Fast and Furious as you can get, and the trailer reinforced people's fears that it would be a brainless action movie. And anyone can SAY they're a Trekkie. In the end, the movie turned out good and fans conceded they were wrong, so all's well that ends well.

It was that in a sense He's known as an action director and I've seen some Trekkies cringe at the movies becoming action movies. Sure the older movies had more monologues and quote mining, but most of them were pretty much action movies.
