劇場版カードキャプターさくら (CARDCAPTOR SAKURA THE MOVIE) 4/10 劇場版カードキャプターさくら: 封印されたカード (CARDCAPTOR SAKURA MOVIE PART 2: THE SEALED CARD) has a lot of the same elements that made the show irresistibly likeable, except for what's arguably the most uninteresting antagonist of the franchise. Any movie where the plot is about a person trying to confess their love to someone else and doesn't do it until the last part is going to feel uneventful, but this movie takes that to a whole other level. You see, in the second-to-last episode of カードキャプターさくら (CARDCAPTOR SAKURA), Sakura Kinomoto (the protagonist) is told by her friend Shaoran Li that he has feelings for her. In the last episode, they have a scene together where they don't say much, but they both understand that Sakura feels the same way. Therefore, the movie isn't about Sakura trying to make Shaoran understand how she feels; it's about her trying to verbalize it as a formality! That lowers the stakes even more! The final season of the show relied a lot on the "Serious scene in which a character is about to tell another character something important, but they're interrupted by something comedic" trope. It's supposed to be surprising, but it can't be if it happens constantly. Not to mention that the character could easily wait until there are no people around and try again, instead of waiting until the next episode. This movie fills its running time with that trope a lot, as well as a pointless montage that feels more like a music video. Keep in mind: This isn't an episode or even a TV movie; it's a theatrical release! We were supposed to pay money to see this?! 5/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
