Yay or nay?
Not as good as the first, but it's really enjoyable. Way better than III anyway.

Nay
I think it makes Axel Foley unlikeable. Eddie Murphy still gives a likable performance, but the writing makes him into a douchebag. I also think the character interactions and story just aren't all that good here and has the action stuff overpowering the comedy.
The first movie balances everything well, while the sequel doesn't at all.
I do agree Beverly Hills Cop II is certainly better than the very watered down Beverly Hills Cop III.
Beverly Hills Cop - 7/10 Beverly Hills Cop II - 5.5/10 Beverly Hills Cop III - 4.5/10

My guess is he was probably filming Robocop at the same time which meant he couldn't devote as much to BHC II.

Tony Scott tackles action comedy again with The Last Boy Scout and handles this movie much better. It has far better dialogue, far better character chemistry and a much more compelling story. I still have a big issue with one of the scenes here in the same way I do with Beverly Hills Cop II though and that is the scene where Bruce Willis holds a gun to his daughters head in order to steal a car. Yes, he had no intention of shooting her and she probably knew that, but it is a very distasteful moment still. He is shown to be a scumbag to an extent from the beginning of the movie, so that makes it a bit more believable. We aren't exactly suppose to like his character in the way we are suppose to like Axel Foley.

I actually think that is one of the smarter aspects of the movie in order to find a reason for Axel Foley to be back in Beverly Hills. I don't think his character really needed much more screentime and I was never much of a fan of his character in the first movie anyway. I am not much of a Ronny Cox fan to begin with. I think he is a boring actor.

Don't worry, I didn't really give much away besides that Bruce Willis's character is morally questionable asshole. Entertainingly so, but still an asshole.

Nay. A pointless film. The humour in the first film came from the clash in methods and attitude between Axel and the Beverley Hills police - you can only do that once.

I've never seen either of the sequels, actually. They worth checking out?

Nay. A major step down from the first one. Totally agree with moviemouth in that Foley was turned into an unlikeable douchebag.

Yay. Just as good as the first one. The problem with both this and the first one though are rather weak climaxes

I like it. It's more focused on action and Tony Scott puts his stamp on this. It's how a sequel shoud be.
Way better than the 3rd one. That strip club scene is hilarious.
