I didn't really enjoy Total Recall but The Running Man is a delight all the way. There was even buzz about Richard Dawson getting a Supporting Actor nom, but, alas, it never happened.
BTW, "buzz" in 1987 consisted of rumors and talk reported by entertainment columnists in newspapers and magazines. What primitive times, right kids?

Possibly a hot take…I prefer the Running Man movie to the novel. The movie is wonderful over the top 80s action shtick…the novel is a rather bleak affair, like most of ‘Bachman’s books.

The Running Man (1987), though I have fond memories of seeing Total Recall (1990) in the theater with my Father and Brother. I dind't like when the fish dies though, I guess it wasn't real but I thought it was back then.
