An interesting effort - doesn't quite work overall - but I'm grateful for film makers who at least aspire to the offbeat and unexplored...,,,a medieval set RASHOMON take on an adulterous liaison with a bit of jousting thrown in . Driver came off best - Affleck's Lana Turneresque blonde coiffeur was definitely a distraction.

Yeah getting savaged big time as well, maybe no Oscars now?. certified fresh on rt with 86% , Joker was nominated with borderline bad reviews Joker was a box office/cultural phenomenon not seen since The Dark Knight. Of course it was gonna get some noms.

I’ve been debating on seeing this. Is it closer to Robin Hood/Exodus suckage or closer to Kingdom of Heaven DC greatness? Just thinking of his latter day period films.

I watched it yesterday and loved it - but then the subject matter is my cup of tea right up my alley. I only wish Ben Affleck and Adam Driver weren't in it. I don't dislike Ben Affleck but he is not right for the role, especially with the ridiculous blonde dye job. And Adam Driver, while a good actor, is just too weird looking.

I too kinda think his real life is / was close to this movie in a way...debauchery, pricklyness...

Did you watch it in french or english?
I went for an english screening and I must say that the language aspect still bugs me.
Are we supposed to believe the characters are french but we happen to hear them in english (like we hear the submarine crew talk in Russian then after a transition it's in english in The Hunt for Red October (1990)) or were they simply English people telling a story of french people?
Because pronunciation (as well as vocabulary but I'll come back to it later) wise, it seemed to be all over the place.
To my hear, Driver was probably the one who was the most consistent at trying to pronounce names in a french way but gosh Affleck was atrocious and it was the most obvious in the part where he calls his sons.
If I heard correctly, the first name is Étienne (which is really french so I understand the effort and which he kinda nailed) but just a fraction of a second later, he calls the other, which is named Éric but instead of pronouncing it as we would in french it just comes out like it would right now, in 2021, in the middle of the street in New York.
Then, the f-word.
Used as a verb? Sure. But has an expletive, like Affleck does once or twice? If we're to believe we're only hearing the characters in english, could we at least have an expletive that resemble an old french one rather than just the usual modern sounding f-word?
Then at times, it seems they go for an older way of phrasing things, like when they get mad or when Damon is (in the first part) talking to his wife, in rage, about how Pierre d'Alençon (Affleck) decided to give the responsibility of the guard to Jacques Le Gris (Driver) instead of him.
I understand this wasn't the Green Knight but the language part of the movie was too much all over the place for me to be sure of how I was supposed to see this.
Story-wise it was alright, giving the Rashomon or Hero treatment to a french medieval story worked but the concept still felt old.
But I concur with your feelings on the bleached Affleck and Adam Driver as an actor.

I watched it in English. I never watch dubbed movies - even Korean and Japanese movies I much prefer to watch in the original language with subtitles than a dubbed version.
The accent of the actors didn't bother me at all. I am certainly very glad that the director didn’t instruct the actors to speak English with a French accent, which would have ruined the movie for me. I agree that Ben Affleck using the f-word did feel jarring and anachronistic.

I thought it was great. Loved the staging, action, rashomon-esque style, and blonde Ben Affleck. I give it five bags of popcorn and five bags of soda.

I've never understood the Adam Driver unease people feel towards him. Is he James Bond actor material? No fucking way but is he that "weird looking"? I've seen weirder looking actors than Adam Driver in movies to be fair. Did Adam make you almost walkout, switch the film off or something?

No, of course, nothing close to that, but it did make me laugh out loud and take me momentarily out of the movie when a female character referred to him as “handsome”. I know very little about male beauty, but I do know that Adam Driver is not handsome.

Well, I just saw the movie and I thought it was pretty good - but it's an intense experience so I can see why some people may not have thought it was entertaining or whatever.
There's a lot of wars and battles going on plus relationships and ranks (Knights, Squires, Captains, etc) and other kinds of things.
It was a bit much - but I did enjoy it. I don't think I'll watch it more than once, though.

Well, I have some thoughts about this movie... LeGris denied the rape, of course. I think he really thought that she liked him a lot and seemed to refuse him out of her upbringing as a noblewoman.
He was stuck on himself and he treated her running away (around a table) with laughter as he had done with a prostitute earlier.
It doesn't mean that he didn't rape her. He absolutely did rape her. I think his vanity gave him an excuse for it by deciding that 'no' meant 'yes'.
He was a bastard.
