Wouldn't be surprised if this is the actual approach for the movie. They just want to follow this "ignore the previous film(s) and make this the "true" sequel" trend used by Halloween (2018), Terminator: Dark Fate, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, etc.

Somehow I suspect they're just telling people what they want to hear. For one thing, the plot as seen in the trailer makes no sense as a direct continuation of the first film. Plus, as Downey/Lux pointed out, Jada is supposedly in this.
Then I doubt the Wachowski's have it in them to wipe 2 and 3 from canon. They seem like the types to feel they made misunderstood masterpieces.

I'm not against them ignoring the sequels, but if so why not bring Laurence Fishburne back? He was a great part of the franchise. I'm disappointed that he's not returning.

It could be that he’s a time traveling Morpheus and he’s a very young iteration of the character. Maybe Fishburne will be back in a 5th one as older Morpheus?!? |
