I realise I've gone into this on another thread. But I've found more information since then.
Over the years a number of theatrically released "feature films" have been created by editing together TV episodes or short films.
Examples of "feature films" made from TV material include:
Fabian of the Yard (1954) - Made by editing together episodes of the BBC TV series. This was logical because many UK households still didn't have a TV set.
Man Trouble (19??) - Created by editing together episodes of the 1975 NBC sitcom "Fay".
The Sign of Zorro (1958) - Edited from Disney's TV series "Zorro"
Zorro, the Avenger (1959) - Also edited from the Zorro TV series.
The Misadventures of Buster Keaton (1950) - Created from several episodes of the TV series "Life with Buster Keaton". I watched this recently, it is pretty fun actually. Keaton rocks!!
The Pathfinder and the Mohican (1957) - Consists of episodes of "Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans" edited together.
Along the Mohawk Trail (1957) - Consists of episodes of "Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans" edited together.
The Long Rifle and the Tomahawk (1964) - Consists of episodes of "Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans" edited together.
Thunder Over Sangoland (1955) - Created by editing together episodes of the TV series "Ramar of the Jungle"
The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1952) - The first three episodes of "The Lone Ranger" edited into a "feature".
There have also been "features" created by editing together short films. Examples include:
Chase Me Charlie (1918) - Edited from several of Charlie Chaplin's short films. The footage was edited so that it told a single story.
The Essanay-Chaplin Revue of 1916 (1916) - Simply several of Charlie Chaplin's shorts edited into a "feature".
Charlie Chaplin Carnival (1938) - Again, Charlie Chaplin's shorts edited into a "feature", this time with music and sound effects.
The Charlie Chaplin Festival (1941) - See above
The Chaplin Cavalcade (1941) - See above
The Bugs Bunny/Road-Runner Movie (1979) - A bunch of Looney Tunes edited into a "feature". Somebody at Warner Bros clearly had too much time on their hands...
The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Benny Movie (1981) - See above
Bugs Bunny's 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales (1982) - See above.
Daffy Duck's Movie: Fantastic Island (1983) - See above
Daffy Duck's Quackbusters (1988) - See above. I can't believe they did five of these things.
Wow, just wow. You want to know what's really amazing? All of these are probably more entertaining than Michael Bay's films!
