So... The Suicide Squad (2021). Best comic movie of the year so far IMO (I realize that more are still coming). I thought it was great! I'd be willing to bet that anybody who saw it would agree.
So what the fuck? Why didn't this movie do better?
It was WAAAAYYY better than Black Widow and Shang Chi. It was just a slightly more violent Guardians of the Galaxy. People love GOTG!
I don't get it. Is it that all you have to do is put the word MARVEL in front of a movie and it does well? Could it be the R rating? Are people just soured on DC so no matter what they do its destined to fail? Should Warner Bros just give up on DC movies?
I'm befuddled. Befuddled I tell you!

I think the R rating and that the first movie got bad reviews played against it.

What did you think?

What did you think? No, I hadn't seen it yet. I'll share them once I do. For what it's worth, I enjoyed the first one for what it was.

The negative response to the first one, as well as being released simultaneously on HBO Max, were probably the major culprits. Also, the movie doesn’t have Will Smith or the Joker, who were probably the biggest draws of the first one.

Probably a combination of a the R-rating, and almost simultaneous streaming release and the reputation of the earlier film

Right?! It was so much fun! And a vast improvement over the first one.

Is it that all you have to do is put the word MARVEL in front of a movie and it does well? Yes. Then that's a shame because when the truly bad Marvel films start coming around, AND THEY WILL, people will forgive them long after they shouldn't anymore. I enjoyed Black Widow and Shang Chi but they're hardly some of the better Marvel movies. They were okay movies IMO.

Befuddled I tell you! i think part of it is people were dissappointed with the previous one so less excited about this one and the “regular folk” wouldnt know who directed it (why there is a much more reasonable expectation that this one is going to be good) plus covid plus vod release at the same time and not enough marketing. I agree, I thought it was a great ride.

Are there funny jokes in the movie? Because the jokes in the trailer weren't very funny.

6/10... barely.
Overlong and just too stupid. (Yes, even "intentional" [for laughs] stupidity can wear out its welcome.)

(Less Guardians and more Winter Soldier, please.)

It was a rather schizophrenic movie it had no idea what it wanted to be. The giant alien creature was the best part and Idris Elba's illogical helmet was the worst part. It was good, funny, shit and garbage at the same time only mildly better than the GOTG movies.

James Gunn is the worst, stupid edgelord humor, poor attempts at tackling arguably important themes, the third act nearly put me on the spectrum. Not a fan of GoTG but much preferred it to this.
