Aside from the money side *, which I don't find very interesting, is there any good reason why Chris Paul and the Spurs aren't a match made in heaven?
Tony Parker is an all-time great Spur, he's done so much for the team, but he was already deteriorating and now he's got an injury that will be brutal to come back from. If he comes back, he's really not going to be a point guard for a championship-caliber team.
So the Spurs desperately need a new floor general, while Chris Paul is 32 and will do anything to play his last few productive years on a real championship contender. I don't think he returns to L.A., not with Griffin's injury history and management who thinks Crawford, Felton and Paul Pierce are an appropriate bench for a team that wants to win, let alone a starting lineup packed with one-way (Jordan, Redick) and zero-way (Mbah a Moute) players.
Additionally, Paul's work ethic and on-court intensity would work well in Pop's system, and he's a drive-first, pass-first PG, not a 3-happy bomber, which also fits well with Pop's system. He's a guy who will not complain about not shooting as much, a scrappy player who does all the little things.
As for Parker, he could play out his last years from the bench and serve as a mentor to younger guys before joining Timmy on the coaching staff if that's what he wants. He'll end his career as a legend in Texas, have his number retired, etc.
* I'm not saying the Spurs don't have the money to sign Chris Paul, I'm saying I don't know what their situation is in terms of cap space and money they already owe on existing contracts. Although the cap is set to rise again, so I'd imagine they have more than enough space to sign a player of Paul's caliber. And if not, at 32 years old Paul might not care about a max contract as much as he cares about winning.

Make a play for him. Paul, Griffin, Jordan, Melo....

It'd be hilarious if it happened and the Spurs are upset in the first or second round again and he remains a conference finals virgin. Hopefully he goes through the rest of his career like that.

What's with all the Chris Paul hate?
1) Dude has never left his team in free agency. He was traded to he Clippers from New Orleans and resigned with the Clips. So how's it a dick move to leave after 6 years of banging his head against the wall with dudes who don't step up in the postseason?
2) CP3 seems to be judged by people who don't watch the games and don't understand his value. He's a legitimately great two-way player and the best pure PG in the NBA by a huge margin. His quickness and handle are amazing to behold. He has unrivaled court vision. Most of all, he's a master at setting guys up and he takes care of the ball better than anyone else in the league.
People say Chris Paul hasn't won anything and don't realize how good he's been in the playoffs. He needs to ditch that team of bums and join an organization with a winning culture.

Because he's easily the most overrated point guard of all time, always choking in big moments. None of the teams that have eliminated him went on to win the NBA title. In fact, none of them even reached the Finals. Jordan got bagged on alot for his playoff failures, but at least the teams knocking him out were the best teams in the league or best in the conference at the very least, the only exception being the Milwaukee Bucks his rookie year. Frankly, Chris Paul doesn't even deserve to be compared to Kevin Johnson, let alone Magic, Oscar, or any other top PG of all time.

Show me one time he didn't put up exceptional numbers in the postseason. You can't, because he's always been good.

Lo and behold, I was correct. Paul is interested in the Spurs, and the Spurs are interested in him -- even though it means they'll have to make serious cuts to their roster to pursue him: www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19521062/chris-paul-give-strong-consideration-san-antonio-spurs-free-agency-sourcesTo the people who claim Paul joining the Spurs would be "a dick move" or somehow unfair, look at the current NBA Finals and the roster make-up of the best teams. The days of the lone superstar are gone, and guys like Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge are second-tier stars, not franchise players. It's also important to note that Chris Paul has never left a team in free agency and has never left any team. He was traded from New Orleans to the Clippers, and that's the only transaction in his career. If at age 32, after six seasons of constantly post-season disappointment with his current squad, he signs with a team like the Spurs, then he's doing the smart thing.
