Remembering actor and producer JOHN HOUSEMAN (1902 – 1988), who was born on September 22nd in Bucharest, Romania. He is known for his highly publicized collaboration with director Orson Welles from their days in the Federal Theatre Project through to the production of Citizen Kane.
He is perhaps best known for his role as Professor Charles Kingsfield in the film The Paper Chase (1973), for which he won a best supporting actor Oscar. He reprised his role as Kingsfield in the subsequent television series adaptation of The Paper Chase.
Between 1945 and 1962, he produced 18 films for Paramount, Universal and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, including the film noir The Blue Dahlia (1946) and the film adaptation of Julius Caesar (1953) (for which he received an Academy Award nomination for "Best Picture"). – Wiki
My own note: Houseman is hilarious in this cameo from The Naked Gun. The movie was released the year he died.

One seldom got to see him smile, but such was the characters he played, so it's nice to see him like this... I mostly remember him from The Paper Chase 1973 and the subsequent TV-series 1978 - 1986, but can't remember that the series went on for 8 years. He was also one of the four old men who had a secret in Ghost Story 1981. Rollerball and Three Days of the Condor both 1975 are movies I've seen much later. On TV I also remember he was in the mini-series The Winds of Was 1983.

He enjoyed a major career as a producer before making a late splash in movies including some very fine films. THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, EXECUTIVE SUITE, THE COBWEB, ALL FALL DOWN
As an actor I think of THE PAPERCHASE too - and yes the TV series was huge at the time (mind you we only had 3 channels at the time), but I also recall him in some other good movies - briefly in SEVEN DAYS IN MAY, THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, OLD BOYFRIENDS and Woody's ANOTHER WOMAN
