I cant wait. I bought a new tv a few weeks ago, much bigger than my old one. The moment I put it up, I knew this years october challenge would be even better than it usually is.

Guess I'll participate, though this might be my least active year and most likely won't be able to reach the goal.
By the way, I wasn't sure if this was addressed in previous years but do alternate/director's cuts qualify as first timers or rewatches since they are still technically the same movie?

They classify as re-watches, if you have already seen the original cut, or vice versa. However if the cuts have their own seperate movie page on any legit film sites (IMDb, Letterboxd... etc). You can count it as a first-time. Something like Mario Bava’s ‘Lisa and the Devil’ and ‘House of the Exorcism’ falls into that bracket. Both have seperate pages. Although overall, I think that’s a rarity.

I was planning on checking out the director's cut of Doctor Sleep which doesn't have its own separate page on any movie site, so I guess that's a re-watch.

I'm in just for fun. I'll be spending 6 days in October driving to New York and back, and another 3 days there for a wedding. Gonna try to get a good amount in though. I also like to watch a lot of Halloween themed family and Disney movies in October so you'll see a good amount of non horror Halloween movies on my list.

Last year is probably my best outing…unless I get laid off again. But I love the challenge either way. Remember to have fun and not worry so much about how many movies you watch but rather…that you enjoy them!

There's no way I'll surpass last year where I came in second and was home constantly. Now, I'm temporarily (I think) working as a security guard on a graveyard shift where I am allowed to watch movies, but I know I don't have enough supply to last me a month. I did alright on previous years while still working at my regular job so we'll see how it goes I guess...

Wow, I really watched 84 last year?! I am shocked, proud and the slightest bit embarrassed. No way I'll be able to top that, but I'm gonna give it my best. As with the last few years, I am taking the final two weeks in October off from work and will be grinding extra hard -- but in an enjoyable way. Good luck and have fun, everyone!

I must ask - how did you manage that many movies in a single month? I used to do double bills but it killed me and I had to stop.

Last year I ended up not watching a single horror; all the way through that is. I had AMC on in the background but mostly I wasted time on my phone. I don't know, I just wasn't feeling it, plus spending way too much damn time on my phone pissing the night/month away. Not this year. I've got some library movies to pick up on Wednesday and yet another few boxes of old orders I will be cracking open to watch for October. I have dozens upon dozens of FTV to choose from and will be revisiting some old favorites as well.. Poltergeist trilogy, The Video Dead, Nightmares...Thanks for hosting, lostinlimbo.

Well, two weeks of vacation + being in the midst of a pandemic with no desire to leave the house made it pretty easy. I also watched a lot of Universal Horror as the theme for my challenge, and those are typically only an hour or so each. I sincerely doubt I'll come even remotely close to those numbers this year, but it was surprisingly easy and fun at the time!

I always put mine on the other side of the room, otherwise I'll hear it buzz, investigate and then, before I know it, it's been 20 minutes and I've lost track of what I was watching. If I could live without a smartphone, I would. Sadly, I need one for work and the need is so ingrained at this point that there is no turning back. Just have to know how to moderate myself. Good luck this year!

Last year was such a bad time for me, I don't even know how I managed 50 movies. This October should be less depressing. I'm already looking forward to meeting some new ghouls and monsters.
It's important for me to enjoy the challenge, so I won't be trying to break any records here. I'm aiming for 50-60 films again. That should be enough.

The last couple of challenges, I found myself around 50/50 when it comes to re-watches and first-time views. When I first started, especially going back to the old IMDb days. It would be 80/20 or 70/30. In favour of first-time views.
This year might be skewed towards first-time views again with such a long watch list to tick off. Usually this is a great way to eat away at it. But I guess plans can change, depending if I burn myself out on poor to mediocre choices and decide to revert back to horror favourites. In recent times I feel more comfortable watching my favourites during the second half of the month. A couple films I feel like re-watching this month; The Stepfather, Deep Star Six, Pale Blood, Fade to Black, Hunter’s Blood, Der Fan, Nosferatu the Vampyre, Hell House LLC... etc.

Does anyone know what they're going to start the challenge off with first? For me, a long overdue rewatch of Pumpkinhead this Friday is in order. I snagged the Scream Factory steelbook earlier in the year and can't wait to give it a look. Perfect atmospheric horror to get the mood started.
