Among other candidates, the Texans have interviewed Hines Ward and Josh McCown for the head coaching position, despite the fact that Ward has only been an offensive assistant for one year (with the Jets) and McCown hasn't coached above the high school level. Does the Texans GM not have enough to do and just likes interviewing people? Does Belichick give a needle full of stupidity to every coach and front office person as they leave Foxborough? I heard McCown as this hot name for Houston. I assumed he was a coordinator in college or the NFL. Wtf? Only high school? How is he even getting an interview? Shit, it must be awfully impressive watching how well a high school team can scheme a system. When I played we had 10 plays tops and 8 of them were runs.

That’s insane, a high school coach getting an NFL interview. How ridiculous. I honestly don’t get why the Texans fired Culley, he never stood a chance, I think they had it planned out before the season to fire him after one year because they knew they would suck.

Meanwhile, the guy they fired did a good job with that team, all things considered.

Can I get an interview???

And I thought Jacksonville and WTF were dysfunctional franchises. The Lions might have a rebuilt plan...at least they collected as many draft picks as Sonic golden rings. They are dead in the water for at least a decade. Watt, DeAndre, Watson...it takes years to collect such players, and they threw them the dirt.

Panthers signed Ben McAdoo as offensive coordinator.
How do you sell THAT at the press conference?

Dan Quinn staying with the Cowboys as DC - - even though he was getting second interviews for head coaching jobs.
Hmmm.
Mike McCarthy's seat seems to be nuclear right now.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announces his retirement after 18 sometimes-controversial seasons with Pittsburgh
Roethlisberger, 39, said "the time has come to ... hang up my cleats" in a video posted to social media Thursday morning. Roethlisberger spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Steelers after he was selected in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft, winning Super Bowls after the 2005 and 2008 seasons and producing prolific statistics that place him in the top 10 all-time in many major passing categories. Parts of his career were colored by several off-field incidents, including allegations of sexual assault. (Washington Post)

Maybe it's just me but I'd rather be a coordinator - you get to stick to working with the players, crafting game plans, calling plays as per your preference (depending on the team) without having to deal with the constant stress and everything else that comes with being a head coach. Yeah, your legacy has a lower ceiling, you won't be remembered as much, but you're still making great money.

Yeah, your legacy has a lower ceiling, you won't be remembered as much, but you're still making great money. I'm glad he's staying. He did a great job as the defense the year before was literally one of the worst of all time. I agree. Plus, he just seems like one of those guys that is just better suited to be a coordinator. Lots of great coordinators just couldn't cut it as head coaches, for whatever reason. Norv Turner stands out. Was a great coordinator everywhere he went but every time they gave him the top gig, it didn't translate. Maybe it's the stress, like you said. Definitely a lot of other responsibilities that come with the HC gig so they can't focus solely on football.

Yeah, your legacy has a lower ceiling, you won't be remembered as much, but you're still making great money. And you can still have a great legacy, just at that particular level: the other Jim Johnson, Monte Kiffin, Dick LeBeau, etc. If Wade Phillips had only ever been a defensive coordinator, he would have been a legend.

Broncos hiring Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett as head coach. Let the Rodgers/Adams projections to Denver commence. Broncos are looking at the Packer offensive line coach as OC as well. He has been very good. Heard a projected trade idea. DEN gets Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams GB gets 3 first round picks (21-23), 2021 second round pick, 2022 second round pick, and Jerry Jeudy Which team says no? If the Broncos can extend both guys I think it's a win/win deal for both teams. Broncos would still have a 2nd round pick this year from the Rams as well as 2 third, 2 fifth, and 2 sixth rounds. Plenty of draft capital this offseason to still play with.
