If you can't stop the clock, at least you can slow it down. …How? Eat right, don't smoke, exercise, wear sunscreen, keep your mind active, etc. Gotta keep yourself up both inside and out as much as you can.

I'm 38. Turning 40 doesnt scare me at all, but 50 is the number that make me anxious. That reminds me of something my mother used to say: she was happy to turn 20, 30 wasn't bad, even 40 was okay...but 50 was hard.

I’m in my mid thirties and the thought of turning 40 in a few short years makes me panic. I just don’t know how people deal with this. It’s not easy. Then again, I recall panicking about turning 20, then 30, and now in retrospect that just seems silly. Hard to appreciate your current age though because obviously it’s the oldest you’ve ever been. Dear Akbar What you're experiencing is normal. It will, probably, get worse ... but not much. Then it will get better ... but not much. I'm a card-carrying member of the "Baby Boom." At 25, I recall thinking: "OMG, in 15 years, I'll be 40!" That was two hurdles to away to cause anxiety, before we would devolve into an abyss of irrelevance. I was "fully aware," that you could never trust anyone, over 30. I knew that, to a certainty, because several teenagers, and people in their 20's -- AKA, my peers -- told me so. And, that was only 5 years in the offing. I would roam the landscape, in a state of trust-unworthiness, for a full decade, before the "end." Look on the bright-side. As you said, you've, already, transitioned into your 30's with considerable ease. You may have lost a sleep, in the nights before your 30th birthday. I'll bet you slept, just fine, on the night after. The same will happen at 40, 50, 60 etc.. There's a currently running commercial that has the tag line: "You only live once. NO! You only DIE once. Live every day!" Cheers, Divtal

Embrace it; appreciate it; enjoy it. There will come times decades from now when you'll consider 40 to be young and wish to be there again.

You CAN age in a way that makes u more attractive. For women over 40 thats Near impossible. We are not all Hellen Mirrens . So yeah it sucks to feel almost invisible. BUT - there are good thing too. I care less and less what others think and I focus more on what I really want in life. I also let go more easily and dont dwell in silly things which allowed me to have smoother relationships with some people around me. Not feelinf physically in top conditions sucks so yeah, eat well and move more. You will be fine. Enjoy being wiser and wiser

Looks like there are quite a few people about to turn 40, add me to the list. I’m 37 and mentally fine with my current age. 30 was a bit hard, 36 was harder (realizing that I’ve been a legal adult for half my life), but I’ve accepted being middle aged.

I'm 37. Three years from now, I'll be a 40 year old. Three years is still a long time, of course, but it will pass. I'm not particularly ecstatic about it. There are certain things I'd like to have achieved in my life by now that remain pipedreams. My parents - in their 70s - are also visibly elderly now and I grow ever more aware of their mortality. Even my younger brother is no longer truly young. Ah well. Such is the nature of things. We're all younger now than we'll ever be again. I'm sure most of us at 50 or 60 will be pining for our 40 year old selves.

It seems like most people fear getting older if they have unrealized goals, so it helps to create a bucket list just to give you a roadmap of what you want to get done in life. Make every day count, and don't just live on autopilot. Get out of your comfort zone, and try to learn something new, experience something new. As long as you keep growing as a person, life will be interesting and enjoyable. Just stay curious.

I think if I had the life I thought I’d have by this point I could be perfectly okay with getting older. The age of 40 kind of feels like the buzzer at the end of a timer right now.

But… I shave my head so at least I never have to worry about losing (more) hair or going grey. I suppose that’s something.
