I am not here to change anyone’s mind, or debate. Just share my my thoughts…
I started being Vegan (Plant Based Diet) for a diet. Then I learned the benefits for animals, the environment, etc… So I was on a Plant Based diet for the first 6 months, and I consider myself a “Vegan” for the past 12 months. No difference in the way I eat, but the way I think.
How it has effected my body:
I’ve lost 28 pounds (12.7 kg) I’ve eaten a lot of beans, legumes, and nuts for protein. I’ve taken daily men’s vitamins. I take only a B12 supplement outside of my normal daily vitamins.
I have more energy. I can easily run 5 miles a day (about 8 km) with no pain. I used to have bad knee pain. I would run about 3 miles and have to stop. I would be out of breath. I chalked it up to aging. I put on a little weight. I chalked it up to aging. My skin was starting to look like it had less of a glow. Again “I’m aging”
Now, I have the trimmest waist size I’ve ever had as an adult. That’s the first thing I’ve noticed is losing my gut/love handles. I don’t get sick. I had COVID-19 and all I lost was my taste and smell for a few days. My wife nearly went to the hospital. I was running 5 miles with COVID.
I don’t have joint pain anymore. My skin has went back to a healthy glow. More full, like I got collagen shots injected into me. But naturally.
With great power comes great responsibility.
If I don’t need to eat animals to survive, then why do I? That was my first thought. Again, I’m not here to convert or change anyone’s mind, I’m just saying how I feel and my process…
I determined that as a human being with a higher level of logical thinking, cognitive evolution, and reasoning… it is my responsibility to protect
What it has done for me emotionally…
I feel like I’m closer to the natural world. I sleep better, I don’t have depressive or anxious episodes anymore. I feel like I’m doing more for the environment and animals, so it makes me feel better about my conscience. When I was a kid, I always had a problem with my grandpa slaughtering the pigs and cows on his farm. I’d treat them like pets, name them, then he’d slaughter, butcher them and serve them to me. But I was told “that’s their purpose, to be food”… but that didn’t sit with me. I didn’t like that. Now, everyone has a different philosophy, but that’s how I feel.
I try to conserve more now as well. I don’t drink from plastic bottles, I drink from a metal water jug. I use metal straws, I reuse them. I recycle more. It’s started a domino effect.
It gives me more purpose. It makes me feel better about my existence on Earth. So I give back, and do my part to be positive to the world in my own way.

vegan here too. (following mostly fiber fueled diet). no real weight loss whatsoever BUT my blood results improved immensly. sugar, cholesterol, glycated hemoglobin, fats, blood pressure, all went down within 3 months of starting this diet and stayed that way.
incredible results. highly recommend it to anyone struggling with any of the above, wanting to live a healthier lide or wanting to see if they could eventually not rely on medication (if their dr santions it).
you gotta take some supplements with it when going fully vegan though. its essential.

I guess not everybody is willing to try, but if one gave it 3 months only and checked their values before and after, one would see the difference, even without changing ANYTHING ELSE. what just the diet does, its pretty amazing. I didnt hold myself back on portion control thus no weight loss, but even just the change in what i ate had amazing results. would recommend. highly.

I have let myself get out of a groove with regular exercise and diet. Some days I do real good and other I’m all fast food. Gotta get the reigns on it.
I went a few weeks with a vegetarian diet but I’ve never tried to go full vegan.
I don’t particularly need meat either. I love nuts and beans and shit like that to supplement…I just go with chicken (mostly) out of habit and flexibility.

Doesn’t look appealing to me. But hey, each their own I guess. Though, if you want to put the poison that is red meat into your system. Go for it. It has carcinogens, which cause cancer. Causes stherosclerosis which builds plaque in your arteries. Leading to heart disease and death. Not to mention, they have to cut down so many forests on Earth to harvest cows to meet the demands of red meat in the US and the World, that they are killing trees and causing less oxygen and more carbon monoxide. Which is destroying the ozone layer, and causing global warming… But hey, enjoy your steak, it tastes good.

I live in cow country, and I always like to see the cows and calves grazing in the green countryside. It makes me sad that some people want to put farmers out of business and send all those animals to slaughter. There is a lot of prairie land out there that is simply too rough or too dry to grow crops. I respect farmers who live close to the land, and work with Nature on a daily basis. They are definitely a rare breed these days.

Since I can't consume dairy, I guess that makes me half-a-vegan (or something like that ). I don't eat nearly as much red meat as I used to, nor is my sweet tooth nearly as demanding. One thing about cutting back on beef is that when I choose a restaurant--which is a lot easier since the lockdown ended, although we're still wearing masks, except when we're actually eating or drinking--I try to look for a place that sells plant-based products. For instance, I still occasionally go to Burger King, but when I order a Whopper, I choose the "Impossible Burger" option. It may not be quite as yummy as the original Whopper, but the difference in how I feel after eating an "Impossible" Whopper (both physical and emotional) makes up for it. I already rhapsodized in another thread about the wonders of good-quality plant-based ice cream, so I won't go into it here, except to say that every few months or even weeks I find another flavor has become available...even Baskin-Robbins has got into the act: The flavor pictured is Strawberry Streusel, which I can personally vouch for. Its only flaw (which most people probably wouldn't consider a flaw) is that it's extremely rich--so consume with care.

Stop making judgments based on a joke. You are exactly what you claimed not to be.
I eat about 50% vegan. The rest of my diet is mostly vegetarian. I eat maybe fish or chicken twice a week. I hate beef. It's like chewing leather. I will have good quality steak maybe once a year. Lol.
Dude, I know all about this stuff.

You’re conscious of what you’re consuming and trying to do the best you can for yourself. Most people are like mindless zombies consuming everything in sight because they don’t care how it affects them. They don’t care where it comes from or the effect it has on themselves or the Planet. Just selfish really. I like what you said.

You didn’t get my punchline. Which was the final line. You made a joke about steak. So I made a joke about how bad it is, but who cares? It tastes good.

The biggest threat to the environment is simply human overpopulation. There are just too many people running around this planet, and that's one of many reasons why I decided not to have kids. A hugely overcrowded world is not a pleasant place to live... www.worldometers.info/world-population/

I went vegetarian a little over a year ago, and I can say I do feel better. I can eat big meals and not feel as sick and sluggish as I used to when I was on a mostly meat diet. Even when I do pig out, I don't put on weight as quickly or easily.
I do eat a lot of vegan options as well, and I would like to convert more and more to veganism; however, I haven't been able to find a good substitute for eggs. I'm a big fan of a nice, hot breakfast in the mornings. This, along with the occasional cheese (though I have found good vegan cheeses), is what has kept me out of being full on vegan.
Any suggestions for hot vegan breakfasts?

Technically, I'm a lacto-ovo-pescetarian, meaning I eat dairy (milk, eggs) and fish, but other than that, vegetarian.
Two reasons: I love animals, I rescue unwanted animals, and the thought of eating them just makes me crazy. I couldn't kill a cow to eat it, why is it okay for me to eat it if someone else did the killing? Fish are a bit of an exception, since they don't have quite the sentience or nervous system of the mammals. And farmed animals are often kept in horrendous conditions. I've actually been inside a pig farm, with my veterinarian, and the crowded conditions and SCREAMING of the animals was, to me, unbearable.
Second: Farmed animals are loaded with chemicals; hormones to make them grow faster, antibiotics (the overuse of creates drug-resistant strains of bacteria), and kept in less-than-clean conditions.
I was diagnosed, years ago, with estrogen-receptor positive cancer, and still, from chemo, have a suppressed immune system, so I am at much less risk of developing illnesses by not eating meat.
I wish I could go vegan, but my doctor said, given my medical history, I wouldn't be able to sustain good health on just plant-based food. So free-range vegetarian-fed eggs, milk and cheese from organic small dairy farms, and wild-caught salmon keep me going when the mixing of plant-based amino acids doesn't cover my needs.

I'm slowly phasing out dairy. I don't think I'll ever give up ethical eggs completely, however. I've been full vegetarian for 13-years now.
I feel mostly good about my diet. My trying to get off carbonated beverages. I drink a lot if loose leaf tea and water as opposed to fizzy water, but I get away from Diet Pepsi. I switched to caffeine free but that's to help me justify drinking it to myself, lol.
