Source: www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/nba-anti-vaxxers-covid-1231988/Kyrie Irving, who serves as a vice president on the executive committee of the players’ union, recently started following and liking Instagram posts from a conspiracy’s theorist who claims that “secret societies” are implanting vaccines in a plot to connect Black people to a master computer for “a plan of Satan.” This Moderna microchip misinformation campaign has spread across multiple NBA locker rooms and group chats, according to several of the dozen-plus current players, Hall-of-Famers, league executives, arena workers and virologists interviewed for this story over the past week. Kareem Abdul Jabbar stated: “ The NBA should insist that all players and staff are vaccinated or remove them from the team,” NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar tells Rolling Stone. “There is no room for players who are willing to risk the health and lives of their teammates, the staff and the fans simply because they are unable to grasp the seriousness of the situation or do the necessary research. What I find especially disingenuous about the vaccine deniers is their arrogance at disbelieving immunology and other medical experts. Yet, if their child was sick or they themselves needed emergency medical treatment, how quickly would they do exactly what those same experts told them to do?” Kyrie, a known conspiracy theorist who supported “the Earth is flat” a few years back, again thinks he’s smarter than everyone. Standing with his fear of vaccination…

Fascinated to see where all of this goes
Wiggins isn't allowed to play at Warriors home games unless he's vaxxed
How do you trade them?
Who would want them?

This goes beyond “My body my choice” anti-Vaxxers… This is mental illness. He needs to be treated by a psychiatrist and cleared before he plays. Claiming they are trying to microchip black people to somehow link them to a master computer as part of Satan’s plan… Wtf?!? 👀

I love when he starts crying and whining that he doesn't get the proper privacy he needs and how he's sick of dealing with the media and how basketball really isn't important to him
Knee jerk reaction is - 'Please shut up, retire go away' - but then I'm like - this guy is topnotch trainwreck entertainment. More! More! I need more Kyrie!

Overrated too
I don't think I'd put him in my Top 5 Centers of All-Time
Think I'd go -
1. Wilt 2. Jo-Jo 3. Dream 4. Shaq 5. This is tough - Ewing or Robinson

😂 Are islamics communists? That might check out. The transformation of “rebel” Boomers like Kareem into now in old age authoritarian flacks for the state is one of the funniest things—and yet they still want to seen as outsiders, rebelling against something.

Kareem isn’t overrated. He’s the real deal. Communist, I have no idea.

He also isn't sure if the Earth is flat or round. He's self-professed "big into conspiracy theories."
And that's about all someone needs to know about him. He's an ignorant nut bag.

I've never heard anything from him about common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the state.

Standing with his fear of vaccination… Anyone this fucking stupid should not be leading anything. It's bad enough all the Trump morons don't want vaccines but when athletes start doing this nonsense it sends a message to millions of fans that it's okay to be a fucking moron. Any athlete who refuses a vax should be excused from the season, no pay, end of story.

The transformation of “rebel” Boomers like Kareem into now in old age authoritarian flacks for the state is one of the funniest things—and yet they still want to seen as outsiders, rebelling against something. I'm not sure what 'authoritarian' or 'outsider' means anymore. The people who were supporting police during the George Floyd riots were the same ones attacking police when they sacked the capitol. Conservative governors touting 'small government' are the same ones abusing their power when municipalities/businesses/school districts try to enact mask mandates. Leave it up to the people, unless you think the people are wrong. Are the local officials the authoritarians or the outsiders? They can't be both. If they're the authoritarians, what does that make the governors, forcing their views upon a lower governing body? If conservatives had it their way, the government would be able to decide whether a woman could have an abortion, but the government should not decide if people should get a vaccine (that could affect countless lives), or even if they need to wear a mask. That's an infringement on individual rights. It would seem these values are no longer absolute, rather they shift situationally at the convenience of those with a specific agenda. For many Americans, the government only appears authoritarian when their chosen party isn't the one making the decisions. The Republican party has been playing this game for years, and they want it both ways. When Trump was in office they controlled the White House as well as congress, yet they still played the 'outsider' card, blaming some imaginary 'deep state' for all of their woes. There are no outsiders anymore, and public health has never been about authoritarianism. It isn't about 'control' or a master computer as Kyrie would have you believe. It's about a better quality of life for all of society.

It would be nice if everyone would get vaccinated. That being said, I think we gotta respect peoples choices as much as we can. If someone really truly doesn't want to get it then I think we should accept that choice.
However, when a person who doesn't want to get the vaccine starts throwing these wild conspiracy theories around it makes it really hard to respect their choice.
