This seems to have a more serious tone to it. I'm intrigued.

"This seems to have a more serious tone to it."
That's definetly not a plus, the original was 80s cheese at it's finest. Trying to make this movie "serious" is like trying to make a gritty reboot of "My Little Pony".

Looks good remastered.
Bear in mind that Stallone has said he has cut out that giant robot for this version.
This version is PG-13 and I think the original is PG.
I also hear 40 minutes of footage has been added back into this film. So with 90 minutes of the theatrical version plus the new 40 minutes, that gives us about a 2 hour, 10 minute film for this new version.

Ties with the one with Mr. T as the funniest and most entertaining of the Rocky franchise, although an extra 40 minutes could turn an amusing movie into a gargantuan bore.

I still find the idea of Sylvester Stallone making a director’s cut for this movie weird. I never heard any real stories about IV going through studio meddling.

I still find the idea of Sylvester Stallone making a director’s cut for this movie weird. I never heard any real stories about IV going through studio meddling. But it was the 1980s. People didn’t talk about it a lot. Apparently the whole time they did alternative takes. Some where Drago says something menacing, but lengthy. Other times, one liners. Some scenes with the robot, some without. They had more dramatic and serious takes, and more cheesy one liner takes with “entertaining” elements like the robot, or Paulie being a goober. I’m seriously interested in this. He says the studio wanted a workout video on steroids. He says over half the movie will be either new scenes added back in, or alternate takes on previous scenes. No robot.

This already looks better than both Creed films.
I bet Stallone was inspired to prepare this new cut after Creed 2. The Dragos were the best thing about Creed 2.

Hoping the extra scenes help the movie. I thought the theatrical cut was fine the way it was but a more serious tone cutting out the robot could make it even better.

If it doesn't have the robot, then I'm boycotting it.

Hoping the extra scenes help the movie. I thought the theatrical cut was fine the way it was but a more serious tone cutting out the robot could make it even better. I think he’s going for epic. He said the studio made them do alternate takes. He’d do one serious, dramatic and one with just “one liners” and cheesy stuff. Then, they basic cut it into a giant workout montage. Which I love honestly. He says he put 10 minutes of brand new footage and 40 minutes of alternate takes. Like the same scene but with different dialogue or mood shift. Some without the robot where some has the robot . So he’s using all the alternate scenes without the robot. Drago has more dialogue. Not just “if he dies, he dies.” But a more menacing speech. Also, he’s scored the film. Remastered “Eye of the Tiger” which you hear in the trailer (instrumental). Also, notice Bill Conti wasn’t in Rocky IV (original Rocky music). It’s being put into this one.

Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review:
Rocky IV (1985) - 2.5 out of 4 stars
"Totally artificial (and unnecessary) sequel has Rocky doin' what a man's gotta do--avenging and friend's demise and fighting for the U.S.A. (and world peace) against a superhuman Russian champ. Still, Stallone knows how to press all the right buttons, especially in a great training montage."
