So, this is an interesting misfire.
The movie has a very effective campy reveal about why everyone is being killed and tying back to things from earlier in the movie and before, but then it has this second reveal that is absolutely nonsensical and ruins the fun of the the original reveal. One of the more convoluted slasher movies I have seen and it is amusing up to a point.
Also too bad that to get the first (or second reveal depending on how you view it) you have to sit through such boring set up. Glenn Ford is easily the best performance in the movie, but unfortunately barely in the movie.
Overall it is one of the better slasher movies from the 1980s due to being more complex and creative than most, but is ruined by a boring first half and a moronic last minute twist.
5.5/10

I thought it was alright. That second twist was pretty nonsensical if amusing.

I thought it was an above average slasher. The killings are certainly creative. But what sets it apart from other slasher flicks is that it's edgier than most and it has an unusually long runtime of 111 minutes. That kind of length is unheard of for this type of movie. But yeah I agree those reveals were pretty silly.

I kinda like it. It starts out as a sorta bland whodunit, although the over-the-top kills and stylish musical score gives it some added character. Where it shines for me is the ridiculous final act, it slides right into high camp territory, and it really works because the rest of the movie is played so deadpan. It's like a punchline.

It seems to be split. Some people think the ending works for going so OTT and some people think it is so ridiculous that it ruins the movie. When we think it is the main women doing all the killing because of these PTSD reforming memories it works very well and is already appropriately campy, but then when it is revealed that it is her sister it crumbles under the weight of the absurdity of it. The first part of the last act makes sense, the last minute twist doesn't.

I thought the premise was interesting, but it was mostly dull in its execution.

One of my favourite slasher movies. Thanks for the review. J. Lee Thompson made some creepy movies.

Sadly it's probably the best live action Scooby Doo movie, and it didn't even have the mystery gang.

I found it extremely drawn-out and uneventful when I watched it as part of last year's Horrorthon. The ending was effective, but that wasn't nearly enough to justify the almost two-hour runtime. Weak.

With a few changes this could’ve been a lot better. It’s well shot and has some good bones.

7/10 - I guess I liked the movie more than anyone else did on this thread. I liked the surprise ending and didn’t think it was ridiculous (aren’t horror movie killings ridiculous in general anyway?). I also didn’t think the 1st half was any more boring than most other 80s horror movies.

I also didn’t think the 1st half was any more boring than most other 80s horror movies. The ridiculous part is the stuff with her half-sister that feels like it is just tacked on. It was only 6/10 before that scene, but it still ruined the ending. The stuff immediately prior to the Scooby-Doo reveal when we think Virginia is getting revenge and has staged the Birthday party is the best stuff in the movie.
