Just waking up after precisely 50 years of being in suspended animation. I realize the world has changed since I fell into the deep freeze on October 5, 1971, but now I'm awake, and ready to see how my predictions have gone.
How well did I do?
1. O J Simpson will no longer be a token negro in movies, but instead will be a headliner
2. Elvis Presley will still be alive, but many people will swear he is dead
3. People will finally realize that William Shatner will never actually be in outer space
4. Television sets will get even bigger and thicker, too big to even carry, too big to fit through doors
5. Debates between presidential candidates will no longer be abusive or mud slinging, but instead involve only people who respect the speaking time and rights of the other candidates, and will never accuse their opponents of any fault or crime or problem
6. Grown men will have to tell young teen age girls how important it is to conserve energy, salvage resources, and be ecologically responsible
7. Prices will go down. Bread will no longer cost 30 cents a loaf, sodas no longer 10 cents a bottle, and gasoline will no longer be 37 cents a gallon.
8. No one will ever argue again against wind power or solar power by citing some ridiculous complaint against clean energy
Oh, I know all of these will now be true. No need to tell me how much we've progressed.

Not sure 1971 would be the year...but most people from within my lifetime (which goes back bit further that 71) would wake up and not even be able to identify the purpose of without some explanation, much less name, more than a dozen things we almost can't live without now. NOT that some of these hadn't been invented/thought of, but they weren't commonly used among us peons.
Rear cameras in cars...but only for backing up...not to replace awkward and ugly rear view mirrors.
cell/mobile phones...but many still have the old house phones but they're cordless. cordless phones
microwave ovens the internet computer programs (NOT that there weren't some, but the average person knew nothing about them) social media...where you can socialize without being social
digitally stored media..what do you mean that 'file' contains the entire Bible? file, on a computer...maybe some still don't know what that is. app...did someone fall asleep spelling apple
compact disks
cassettes...weren't in wide distribution
computers...they were called people then
hand calculators...except a pencil and paper
computer chips in virtually everything...are they good to eat? or are they more like buffalo chips?
hard drives...not driving straight thru from NY to LA.
USB drives and other portable media web cams
I'm thinking back to my HS days.
