It now looks odds-on that a Saudi-Arabian combo will buy-out Mike Ashley. Could happen today and would make the 'Toon one of the world's richest clubs.
First item of business: Ashley to give Bruce a mmmmmassive pay rise beforehand, so that when he gets the boot (tomorrow?), he'll get the chance to wave a biiiiiiiig cheque (and two fingers) at all his critics.
Second item: (after Bruce goes) appoint a new manager.
Question: Who?
Keegan Pep Klopp Conte Martinez Jinja ZZ Ranieri Jose Mancini Enrique Woy Moyes Neville Brothers

Definitely hope they get relegated now!
Difficult to pick a worse owner than Mike Ashley, but they managed it!

Seems to me a fudge to get around the Saudi State owning it as they are a no no to the EPL for pirating reasons. Will just be like owning it through shell companies and calling it a "consortium" instead. Will also piss off the big 6 ish clubs who have been allegedly pushing to block the bid as they didn't want another big player at the select table. I always hope for them to fail as their fans are some of the most deluded and self entitled in the game.

It would also be nice to see some morality in play on these fit and proper people tests, you are unacceptable if you pirate streams and take revenue away from the EPL, but being one of the worst human rights regimes in the world ? That's apparently fine. The EPL along with F1 should hang their heads in shame.

Great news. As someone who vaguely follows all teams who wear black and white vertical stripes this seems the only way for them to be competitive. It was a lot of fun having the Tools consistently in the top 4 in the EPL in the mid-late 90s, now they may be there again.

The criticism was led by Democracy for the Arab World Now (Dawn), the group founded by Khashoggi before he was killed – and his body cut to pieces with a bone saw – after being lured to the Saudi consulate in Turkey in 2018.
US intelligence agencies have since concluded that the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, approved the murder. This has been denied by the Saudi government.
“Newcastle has sold its name and reputation to a brutal government with a brutal ruler,” Dawn’s executive director, Sarah Leah Whitson, said.
“They may as well put Bin Salman’s picture on the club’s emblem. It is now more apparent than ever that English football will sell itself to anyone, no matter how abhorrent their crimes, if they offer up enough money.
“I don’t think people really understand the corrupting influence that this deal will have. It normalises a dictator who literally goes around butchering journalists.”

Russian oligarchs, Arab despots, American crooks ... is there any big EPL club that does not have a morally reprehensible owner?

(Telegraph - subscription required) I would doubt anyone has the faintest idea who will take over, No doubt made up. About all you can say is that Bruce is likely to go in the near future with a nice pay off. With unlimited funds I would expect someone much higher profile like Conte. Just glad it's not my team, who really wants to just buy success. Meaningless without achieving it.

Russian oligarchs, Arab despots, American crooks ... is there any big EPL club that does not have a morally reprehensible owner? I wonder if any Newcastle are against this? Probably not. But then I used to wonder that about Chelsea / Man City fans - there must be some Chelsea fans - of a certain age - at least who'd trade it in to see them win a few cups / be competitive in the league on a real footing rather than have bought success. One of the great things being a football fan is seeing a team being built and knowing that your side are coming real close. That's kind of stolen when these takeovers happen. e.g. I bet any Newcastle fan would still trade in what's happening now if they could have seen that Keegan era team win the league...

I realise it is very easy for me as a distant observer to feel outraged about it. I really don't know how I would feel if I were a die-hard Newcastle fan. Be happy that my team might become a contender again after so long, or be despondent about my beloved club now being the property of an utterly vile institution?
