Busy two weeks i'm thinking of ending things is my favorite film of 2020 so far Yes it did exceptionally well in the icmforum delayed best of 2020 poll - came in at 2 or 3 from memory. I’d never heard of it . I think I lost the thread towards the end - so much going on with Kaufman it can be hard to keep up on first viewing - but keen to have another look soon. There aren’t many new movies I can say that about. He's definitely responsible for some of the most original and inventive films of the 21st century, and this might just be his best, though I still really love Synecdoche, New York also.

I should give SYNECDOCHE another go - I resisted it at the time because it wasn't another BEING JOHN MALKOVICH (and Catherine Keener not as well utilised) , which I adored - and not fond of Samantha Morton. But that set was crazy! None of his others as writer and/or director have wowed me like that one but they were all interesting and ENDING THINGS probably my second favourite. and Thanks to this post I'm now officially a Senior!

in the OF INTEREST/WATCHABLE category Low key but engaging comedy about slack musician Jake Johnson who has to fulfil a series of self improvement tasks set by his deceased, estranged mother in order to inherit a cabin in the wilds. Susan Sarandon as the flaky stoner mom appears via video clips... JK Simmons good value as her lover... but shame they didn't get any scenes together. JK Simmons' line about how he was going to miss the "sweet smell" of Sarandon's "vagina in the morning" was a riot. And as a dog lover, I was blown away by the amazing black retriever - a guide dog for the blind - who played Johnson's gentle, loving canine companion. She is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, sensitive and intelligent animals I have ever seen on the screen. You can safely miss all the rest, which range from mediocre to terrible. I thought THE CARD COUNTER was excellent and both my missus and I found it riveting viewing; and the ending was deeply moving. Yes that was one of the biggest laughs... Johnson's reaction shot priceless...JK Simmons has become one of the joys of current cinema going - he gave a similar final act lift to THE TOMORROW WAR and stole the show in PATRIOTS DAY from a few years back I only saw this year. Not sure re the dog in EAGLE to be honest- in the interests of full disclosure I'm a cat man - but even allowing for that the dog to me seemed a contrivance to allow Johnson to air his thoughts and feelings without resorting to a voiceover narration. But a sweet, gentle and funny movie overall. I like Schrader generally so had high hopes for THE CARD COUNTER - but it was lousy copy and I was tired.was

Do give it another bash when you get your hands on an HD version (which are now plentiful), and when you are wide awake. About a week ago, I fell asleep 25-minutes into the woke, dreadful new CANDYMAN (2021) film. I don't fall asleep during films very often, and if I do, I re-watch the picture the next day. I will not, however, be returning to CANDYMAN. I do not need to see the rest of it.

I've not heard of the 'The Tomorrow War', thanks for the recommendation.
I need to see 'The Card Counter'. I usually find some favourites in your "avoid the medicore to terrible to stinker" section, thanks. I actually have my dvd of 'The Big Racket' out ready to watch.
Well I hope you enjoy BIG RACKET more than I did - I'm big on Fabio Testi but not one of his finest - I have DELITTO PASSIONALE from 1994 with Serena Grandi & his MANAOS co-star Florinda Bolkan nearing the top of my WATCH pile - looks like an "erotic thriller"

Thanks. I've watched it many times. One of my favourite crime movies.
