Leslie Howard. He played in British Agent in 1934. And he was shot down in 1943 promoting the British cause. Maybe trying to keep Franco from joining the Axis.

Hoagy Carmichael--Bond creator Ian Fleming reportedly pictured his 007 as having a strong resemblance to the composer/occasional actor. Carmichael would definitely have to work on his accent, though.
