I was trying to think of the one I saw within the last few years that took place in the middle east. I think it may have been Red Sands now that you've identified that one. If I recall it had a sort of twist ending that I won't repeat in case people haven't seen it, but it was one of those endings that reframes the whole thing... if it's the same movie, that is. I've never seen any of them, but I know that there are people that like the Outpost movies. My memory of the two Middle East films are very hazy. I saw them when they were first released, and didn’t think much of them. Although you could be thinking of The Objective, as I remember it being less straightforward, if rather ambiguous compared to Red Sands. I like the original Outpost movie, not second film though. Never bothered with the third. As I've looked at both of them now I don't think it was either one. Maybe there's another recent one out there that I'm forgetting about.

The movie was trying to remember was called Ghosts of War and was released on Netflix last summer. It's setting is a desolate house somewhere in Europe during World War II. To explain why I was confusing it with Red Sands, outside of them being largely confined to a single location in the midst of a war, might spoil the ending, but it definitely qualifies for this thread topic.

Reading up on it, sounds alright. Looking over a few no-spoiler reviews, people don’t seem to like the twist.

I didn't think it was mind-blowing or anything, but I've gotten used to that sort of thing after the many, many movies that have attempted it, so it didn't really bother me. Otherwise it's a generally well-made and well acted movie, but considering I couldn't even remember which movie it was or which War setting it employed, it's not likely to stay firmly in the memory bank for most viewers.

There's an old made for SyFy movie, SS Doomtrooper. I watched it once. One of the better SyFy Channel movies but that isn't saying much.

I've only seen the first "Outpost" movie. I think it's a series of movies.
"Tunnel Rats" I wouldn't say it's a horror film. But it's certainly bleak with some overtones.
There is "Red Sands" about Soldiers encountering a Djinn. I liked it. (I see someone already mentioned it.)

This doesn't really count, but this is creepy dialogue from Maniac Cop 2 which relates to World War II.
An old blind veteran says this to a cop after coming in contact with Matt Cordell:
"I lost my sight in combat in Sicily. A German grenade went off in my face. Killed all the others in the foxhole around me. I lay there more than a day surrounded by these dead bodies buried in them. At night they froze. Them being on top of me kept me from freezing too. I never thought I'd feel anything like that again. Frozen dead flesh. Then I touched his hand. Just for a second, mind you and I was back there again... with the dead."

If no one has said it already... "Death watch" (2002) was pretty good. Not sure if "Below" (2002) would qualify. It takes place on a haunted Sub WW2.
