I was watching an episode of an American Television show where a Character was speaking Spanish and there were subtitles in English...
I know that many shows/movies are dubbed with alternate language tracks, when shown in other countries...
But what happens to these "Spanish" speaking characters?
For certain characters and parts of many plots... speaking different languages are a requirement to make these stories work as intended for the Audience...
For Example... There is a scene in the movie "The Hunt For Red October", where the American crew board the Russian submarine, "The Red October", towards the end of the film... and the two crews face each other, but one crew speaks English, while the other speaks Russian, and there is a tense moment as they stare at each other, before Alec Baldwin's character reveals that he speaks Russian, and understands what the Russian crew are saying...
Do "Spanish" speaking characters get dubbed in English, with "Spanish" subtitles?
In the case of the movie "The Hunt For Red October", where most of the film, would be dubbed in Russian, would the Russian Crew then speak English?
Or do these films just get subtitles that say, "speaking another language", and they forget the audio dub?

In Durarara!! and Durarara!!x2, there are a few characters who speak Russian, and Japanese subtitles pop up for those bits of dialogue.
