Same old, same old, but the ending ties up the franchise in a smart way.
Question though. What is with the new thing introduced of killing someone else to take your place? Why was this never mentioned in any of the other movies as an option? It feels like something tacked on to change things up, but doesn't really fit with the other movies. The logic of the one who decides to kill at the end doesn't really add up either. He couldn't kill innocent people on the street, but he decides that for some reason the girl deserves to die? I realize he is bitter that she survived and that his girlfriend didn't, but his reasoning just feels contrived.
What it made me think of though is one of the movies should have had a serial killer as one of the survivors and what would happen if he murdered people who wouldn't have died if it wasn't for him surviving and that could be interesting.
Here is my ranking.
1. Final Destination 2. Final Destination 3 3. Final Destination 5 4. The Final Destination 5. Final Destination 2

I haven't kept up with this series since I found it pretty cheesey from the very beginning, but I just recorded the last one. I haven't seen either, but I thought most people liked The Final destination better than Final Destination 5.

I haven't met a single soul who can say they even liked that one. It's so worthless.

I only like the first movie, but I like 4 better than 2. 4 is the most ridiculous and worst written, but it is more fun than 2 and 5 imo. I only put 5 ahead of 4 because of the ending. The characters in 4 are charismatic and the kills are insanely OTT. The race track scene is bonkers. The problem with 2 is that it is poorly paced and the characters are completely devoid of anything resembling likability or memorability.

I'll give you the race track scene, but I found the rest rather dull and uninspired. Just felt like cynical filmmaking to me, where they knew it would make money no matter what, so they just copied and pasted a few elaborate deaths into a generic script and called it a day. I can't remember a single character from that movie.

The second Pink Panther movie doesn't even have Pink Panther in the title. With the latter Jason movies it was because New Line didn't have the rights to the title. Same with the split of Chucky and Child's Play. There appears to be no excuse for the illogical approach to titling Final Destination 4 and most of the Rambo movies.

I actually think 5 is the most tonally inconsistent. It has one scene that is straight-up comedy. At least 4 kept up it's tone of colorful ridiculousness throughout the movie.

The 4th movie is still called Friday the 13th though. The split happened with 9. That's why it's called Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. They made sure you knew which series it was but they weren't allowed to call it 'Friday the 13th.' Same with Bride of Chucky being the first with a new studio that couldn't call it Child's Play. That's still their issue now with the new Chucky TV series and the Child's Play remake movie. Different parts of the rights go to different entities somehow. The Final Destination thing is pretty dumb, kind of in the same way, and sort of explains my confusion since THE Final Destination clearly implies that it's the last one, and then they did another and just brought the numbers back. Rambo just makes no sense. First Blood, then Rambo: First Blood Part II, then Rambo III. Not a lot of logic there, but it's all about market research and what they think people will be drawn in by and recognize. As mentioned earlier, a lot of these new series entries make little sense too. Making a sequel to a movie that just has the same title is weird.

I agree that Rambo series makes the least sense of the older movies, but I am saying that Friday the 13th still doesn't stick with one thing. The Final Destination is still called Final Destination, just with a THE added. Big deal. For all I know they planned that being the last movie and that would have made the title make more sense. Same thing with Friday the 13th 4. It would have made sense had the series actually ended with that movie. So you are complaining about one and not the other, when it could be the exact situation. It is only confusing for people who don't keep up with the franchises. Fast and Furious franchise is probably the most extreme case, after the Halloween franchise. It seems to be the 4th ones that start getting more confusing. Rambo, The Final Destination, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Fast & Furious.

I think Halloween just did it to be purposely confusing. It was trying to tie itself back to just the original. It would have been confusing anyway they did it, because there are already 2 Halloween IIs. Would have made more sense for Halloween (2018) to be titled that if Rob Zombie's Halloween didn't exist. I see Halloween (2018) as more of a homage/love letter to the franchise than a true sequel anyway, so the title would make sense that way.

The characters are one thing I appreciate about 2, especially the fact that they actually team up instead of waiting to die one by one. The goofy cokehead (Rory), the prissy business lady (Kat), the cynical biker (Eugene), the mom and son (Nora and Tim) were all pretty memorable for me. The characters in 4 are so baseline that they're literally just called stuff like "The Mechanic" and "The Racist". I'm not fond of 3's either - it's like they were making a parody of high school stereotypes but forgot to make them funny. And I can't believe anyone likes the race track opening. That was awful even in dbox 3D. The pile up in 2 is legendary, and the bridge collapse was pretty cool too. As for the "kill or be killed" stuff - I mean, it's ambiguous if it even works. Nathan succeeds in replacing himself with Roy, but it turned out Roy was going to die soon anyway. The cop takes Sam's place, but Sam then dies on Flight 180. In 2 and 4, people attempt to kill themselves but can't because it's not their turn. So maybe it's not mentioned again because it was an F. On the other hand, Candyman gets more encryptic with each film until he disappears entirely so there's that too.

As I said, 2 might have the second best script, but the directing and acting are tone deaf. I had a hard time even finishing the movie tbh. It is a borefest. I even find the opening scene the most dull of the franchise opening scenes. I respect that you disagree. We seem to be on the same page with the "kill or be killed stuff." I mostly just don't like the inclusion.
