Remember the Viewmaster? I had one as a kid with some Disney/Muppet reels. I can’t find those reels now, but I’ve started building up a new collection.
It started as a surprise Christmas gift for my daughters. I found some kid-friendly reels that I think they’ll like. But I’ve been buying a lot for myself too! And probably spending more money than I should on eBay.
So far my favorites are Alaska and Sea World. I also got a set with elephants, lions and chimpanzees performing tricks at the St. Louis Zoo.
Does anyone else remember Viewmasters or still use them? Any reels I should look for in particular?

I remember them. My cousins had one but I didn’t. When you looked into it, it was like you were taken to another place.

Until recently I thought it was just a children's toy. I didn't know they were originally a way for people to see different sites from around the world. The reels would be sold next to postcards.

We had one when I was growing up. It was mostly famous sites from around the world, like the Eiffel Tower. I thought it was pretty cool. It's kind of fun to do retro things like that sometimes. I've recently been doing a hobby that my grandmother taught me when I was a kid -- pressing flowers! It's very nostalgic, and sometimes they turn out a lot better than I expected. Unfortunately, the growing season is almost over, so I'll have to put some projects on hold until next Spring. It's just fun to reconnect with the past, and simpler times.

I had one. I took the reel out and tried to see them up close with my unaided eye.

My grandmother used to go every year on organised excursions to various destinations worldwide, and she always brought back Viewmaster disks for me. I probably had a decent collection at one point.

I hope my kids get a kick out of them. I’m trying to get a good variety of pictures.
