How could he kill her and injure the director with a prop gun? Was it an SMG or something? Apparently blanks can still be fatal.

This is a horrific tragedy that could have been avoided. I feel remorseful for all those involved. Rest in peace, Halyna Hutchins and a speedy recovery to Joel Souza. How could he kill her and injure the director with a prop gun? Was it an SMG or something? The prop gun was loaded with a "live single round" and not a blank one. And even using blanks can be dangerous. Baldwin must have been firing towards the camera since he struck both the cinematographer and the director.

He should've checked the gun prior to filming what kind of actor just walks out on set without checking things first.

It's not the actor's responsibility to ensure the safety of the props.

I'm not saying Alec deliberately killed anyone, but when you're in possession of a gun to be pointed in the direction of an employee no matter how fake it is you need to request a testing first.

For those still confused... This is regular round of Ammunition: A Blank, does not have a Bullet. A Dummy Round, does not have a powder charge, and it does not have a live primer.

That's horrible, I'm not a huge fan of CGI but it might be better if prop bullets were replaced by them. This is actually not the first time this has happened (Brandon Lee in the Crow comes to mind)

Any negligence, ignorance, or intentional behavior deserves to be punished.
But it's very unfortunate someone will still be dead when all is said and done.
At least this incident will be a wake-up call to prevent further loss of life on set like with the incidents of The Crow, Twilight Zone, etc.

A tragedy that could have been prevented. Like pretty much all workplace accidents. Usually the ultimate culprit is money. Safety costs money. Not saying that’s the case here but having worked construction the past 12 years or so I can say that almost all safety shortcuts boil down to money.
