Alongside the obvious "coffee's for closers", Baldwin plays one of the best characters in The Departed. "I'm gonna go have a smoke right now. You want a smoke? You don't smoke, do ya, right? What are ya, one of those fitness freaks, huh? Go fuck yourself."

Loved him in 'The Edge' too with Anthony Hopkins
I go back and forth at times on what was the better movie
Was always a fun debate on the old horror board
The Grey (wolf movie)
vs.
The Edge (bear movie)

Quite liked him in Malice (1983) with Nicole Kidman.

I'm going to reserve judgment until we find out what happened. Matthew Broderick killed people in a car accident in 1987 and apparently nobody cared. Comparatively speaking, a prop accident on set is hardly a career killer.

OK - that was in very bad taste
Sorry

I have only heard about the incident without much detail. I don't understand how a prop gun is even capable of firing anything. It seems to me that the prop master is at fault here.

What happened was terrible, but I don't see it as the end of his career. Not unless something comes out about him being very careless with the use of the gun. Really though the people at fault here are going to be everybody but him. The prop person, the armorer, the 1st AD who is supposed to be in charge of safety on set and very likely the producer. Baldwin as the actor isn't technically supposed to be responsible for gun safety or safety in general. He was likely handed the gun by the prop person or armorer and that person very likely forgot to check the gun. However, the 1st AD is supposed to also do a safety check as well. So multiple people failed here.
He's likely gonna have to take some time away from acting/hosting and lie low. I think within a year or two he'll be back though.

I'm pretty confident in assuming that this was not his fault and there was no malice involved on anyone's part, whatsoever.
I feel bad for him. Sure, he's not the one who got hurt, and it's worse for those people, but it's got to be a hard thing to live with.

There was a live bullet in the gun. Why? Did someone purposefully slip it in knowing that Baldwin would shoot it?

Biggest question for me is how exactly did he manage to shoot the Director of Photography rather than another actor?

Biggest question for me is how exactly did he manage to shoot the Director of Photography rather than another actor? Shooting towards the camera on a POV shot or something. Seems pretty obvious. If she was operating the camera or looking over her camera operator's shoulder that could easily happen. The director was injured as well.

The link above that someone shared explains how something like this could happen accidentally, without a live round being loaded.
