Is his career over? Probably depends on how responsible or accountable he is for the accident. It’s not Baldwin’s responsibility to make sure the gun is loaded properly or with the proper ammunition. That falls to the armorer and the prop master. But both of those positions ultimately answer to a producer. And Baldwin is a co-producer. I don’t know if he was a producer over those departments. And even the nature of a (head) producer is not a “one size fits all” or “cookie cutter” thing. On some movies the producer has more power and control than the director. On other movies they might be nothing more than the head gopher/“go for”. I don’t know how things were being run from a production standpoint.
But the latest news that just came out is claiming that the armorer and prop department were cutting corners with safety. Allegedly some union people were fired or walked out over it. And allegedly some were replaced with non-union people who don’t meet the same standards. If this is true it can’t be good for anyone who had authority on that movie project.

He's a producer of the film, so he might have some liability in this accident if all this talk about union workers and safety standards being thrown out the window a day or two before the incident is accurate, right? I don't know anything about the film industry or the laws surrounding the film industry, so I could be totally off base.

He wasn't trying to point the gun at another actor... He probably aimed the gun towards the camera... The director wanted to see the Flash from the gun barrel on film... We have all seen camera views like these thousands of times in the movies... and the Director of Photography was probably, behind the camera... and the same goes for the Director, who was also injured. Yeah, I'd already responded further up to someone making that reply to my comment. It wasn't that I hadn't considered that, rather I didn't believe in this day and age - given the previous on stage firearms accidents, e.g. Brandon Lee - that from a safety viewpoint you could really have a cameraman, DP and the Director all huddled together directly behind the camera to watch the directly aimed shot. That seems unbelievable to me if that is indeed what happened.

Nobody knows how involved he was as a producer. An actor of that statute is often just given that title. Maybe he found the script and brought it to the director and that's the extent of his production duties. He's certainly not the line producer. He was handed a gun and told it was cold/unloaded. You can charge him in your fantasies all you want, but you have no legal leg to stand on.

I would press charges in order to investigate his part in all this.

You have the order of those things backwards. You're not making sense.

Very good actor who resurrected his career by becoming a first class comedic talent. must be a horrendous thing he's going through. Anyone normal would have nothing but sympathy for him I would have thought.

I think he'll face social stigma and maybe even be shunned for a while. But he'll recover. This seems like an unfortunate accident.

The gun did NOT malfunction or misfire...
The gun was not supposed to have been loaded with any regular rounds of Ammunition...
I've heard that regular rounds of Ammunition are not allowed on sets, to avoid these kinds of accidents...
So where did it come from?

You can’t tell how involved or responsible a producer would be in something like this simply going by the title of producer. It varies a lot from one movie to another. It’s premature to cast blame on him at this point.

I've heard that regular rounds of Ammunition are not allowed on sets, to avoid these kinds of accidents... So where did it come from? I knew it... Even if someone is new to the job, they should know, this is a movie set, and only dummy rounds should ever be loaded into any 'prop' gun... So... Who the fuck brought regular ammunition to the set, and loaded it into a 'prop' gun?

To each their own
I never understood some peoples infatuation with 'playing' with guns.
Maybe it gives them a sense of empowerment.
Per CNN -
'Crew members on the set of "Rust" used guns with live ammunition and engaged in a pastime called "plinking" hours before Halyna Hutchins was killed, founder and CEO of The Wrap, Sharon Waxman, told CNN's Don Lemon Monday night, citing information from an individual with knowledge of the set.
One of the guns used was later handed to actor Alec Baldwin, who fired the shot that killed Hutchins, 42, and injured director Joel Souza, The Wrap reported.
There's this pastime that crew members sometimes do, it's called 'plinking,' and they go out into the rural areas and they shoot at beer cans. This is with live ammunition. We learned that this happened the morning of the day that Halyna Hutchins was killed," Waxman said.'
