The most annoying devilish neighbour of Rosemary, and playing around with Clint Eastwood and an Orangutan every which way, but long before that she had worked her way through the entertainment business, scriptwriting, playwriting, and acting on the stage. Ruth Gordon (1896–1985)
This year we celebrate her 125th birthdate, that happened to be in Quincy, Massachusetts.
She proved that at age 70 it's not too late to start a movie career, as a star character/supporting actress, but before that she had a long career within the business.
Together with her first husband Gregory Kelly they toured America gaining success after success in plays that are now forgotten, but he suddenly died of a heart disease at age 37.
She had a contract with MGM in the early 1930's that amounted to nothing.

She made her screen sound debut in Abe Lincoln in Illinois 1940 as Mary Todd Lincoln, against Raymond Massey as Abe, and she acted in four other movies in the early forties.
In 1942 she married her second husband, writer Garson Kanin, who was 17-18 years her junior, together they became a very successful team writing for both theatre and movies.
