I've been meaning to watch it for a while. Tonight was the night.
It's really good. It's beautiful (to look at) and well acted with a great lived in story. It's the type of movie (in my opinion) that invites you into the emotions of a family. It's similar to Edward Yang's Yi Yi.
I recommend it.

It's on my watch list.
I'm a big fan of Yang, and while A Brighter Summer Day may be his most ambitious film, Yi-Yi is my personal favorite.

Yi-Yi is a personal favorite of mine too. A Sun reminds me of Yi-Yi because it takes its time to tell a good story right.
I like Edward Yang too. Yi-Yi bought decades worth of faith in Yang's catalogue. I would love to see more of his films.

All his works are worth a look, though I couldn't quite get into A Confucian Confusion. Probably needs a re-watch as the version I saw was on YouTube and not the best quality. I still need to see his debut That Day on the Beach. An amazing talent, like Tarkovsky, gone too soon after just seven films.

That really does complete the Tarkovsky comparison in a morbid kind of way.
Youtube would definitely not be my first choice. Admittedly, I watched Mizoguchi's Street of Shame on Youtube. I've since bought the DVD from a closing video store. It's not completely night and day. Now that I've seen both, the DVD is obviously better but the Youtube version was...acceptable.
Still, I would rather own the DVD in 100% of cases.
If I catch more of his films, I'll let you know. I'll post about them here or on the World Cinema board.
