Among the next projects on Butler’s slate is Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, which will have him play the villainous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. While the actor stayed mum on the specifics of the experience, he noted that he was “a huge fan” of the original 2021 film and relished the opportunity to work alongside Villeneuve, who he found to be “an incredible filmmaker, and an amazing person,” to boot. “We had a blast getting to collaborate on this,” he said. “It was just so much fun for me, especially playing this role, to get to do something so different from anything I’ve ever done before.” deadline.com/2023/01/austin-butler-on-lisa-marie-presley-dune-part-two-elvis-oscar-nom-1235238873/

From Dave Bautista:
“This is so amped up from the first film. The first film was just an introduction to what this film is. There's just so much going on, it's so much more cutthroat and political and intense. And there are moments of levity where [there are] some funny moments, and they're kind of absurd humor, but there are those moments. So it's just so much more amped up than the first film.”

I know it’s really early to say this, but I wonder if this has a chance of winning Best Picture next year, RotK style.

Speaking recently with Vanity Fair, Pugh discussed the joys of working on the film alongside other gifted performers with quickly-ascending careers: "It’s actually an interesting point because for the majority of my career I’ve worked with lots of older actors that I’ve had to pinch myself for working with. I’ve learnt a lot just by watching. To do 'Dune' with those specific actors at the front, like Timmy [Chalamet] and Zendaya and Austin [Butler]—they are remarkable people, number one, and unbelievable actors, number two. They’re stars in their own ways, not in the cliché way of using the word. They’re just—they’re sparkly people. I’m now lucky enough to call them all my friends, which is super exciting. For me to be able to work with the 'young Hollywood' of the moment, and them being beautiful people, and then have them on my phone when I want to text them—to see that that’s the direction in which our industry is going is such a wonderful feeling.

Seems almost everyone is leaving the spinoff tv series.
"... Chernobyl executive producer Johan Renck, who had signed on to direct the first two episodes, has exited the project. Search is underway for his replacement as production has been put on hold. Shirley Henderson, who had been tapped as one of the leads, also is leaving. Her role as Tula Harkonnen will be recast. That is in addition to creator Diane Ademu-John, who had written the pilot script, stepping down as co-showrunner in the run-up to production, with veteran TV writer-producer Alison Schapker becoming sole showrunner of the Legendary-produced series."

During a masterclass at the Doha Film Institute (via Deadline), West explained how the Dune sequel would be different in many ways and how it will explore many worlds that the first film briefly teased:
"In Part Two, you really dive into the different worlds of Dune. We see what the emperor’s world looks like. We go to his planet. We spend a lot of time on Giedi Prime, the Harkonnen planet. We spend a lot of time in Stellan Skarsgård’s [Vladimir Harkonnen] world. Feyd-Rautha [Harkonnen] also comes into this one, brilliantly played by Austin Butler, Elvis. He is pretty fabulous in it.
All the worlds get expanded. It was about creating three separate, different-looking worlds and also revisiting the Bene Gesserits, the age-old ones with these costumes that almost look like Egyptian mummies. I think it’s visually stunning, the sets, the cinematography and the concepts."

Reportedly it won't be debuting at Venice.

I'm still curious to see how far into the book series they will go. Anyone heard anything about that?
