I have no dog in this hunt (except for maybe Doctor Strange, I'm pretty much done with the MCU after ENDGAME), but it's my understanding that the "anti-woke" brownshirts really have their knives out for this film... You know: female director, strong female characters, non-white characters, gay characters, etc. Yada yada yada. I’ve seen posts from a few of them blaming its reception on the fact that Chloe Zhao is Chinese. Which doesn't make sense given her previous films were hits with critics.

So the low critic ratings couldn't be attributed to that.

It’s really tiresome trying to keep track of all the pieces of entertainment those people claim to have problems with.

It's either just another formulaic MCU movie, or it strayed too far from the MCU formula and should have stuck closer. The negative reviews have led me to believe both these things must be true. That’s what I got from them too. It tries new things and (supposedly) fails at them, while still sticking to some of the things that people are starting to see as formulaic. Sounds like they tried to have it both ways and failed at both as a result.

60%. One percent from becoming rotten. Let’s say 51% of the reviews are positive, why would you think a majority opinion being positive as being rotten? I’ve never understood how 60% can be one half of something. Can you help me out?

Of course, that might mean that with a critic score this low, it might actually be a hit with audiences. My thoughts are after a particular film or series, critics will sort of naturally be more critical of the director or producers next film. It's human nature to knock things off pedestals. I daresay, this film is no better or worse than the other Marvel films. And we've all seen a 90% RT Fresh rating, then see the movie and think it sucks. It's all subjective opinion, which too many in our present society mistake for objective facts.

I'm not sure why they do it the way that they do but they must consider a more clear majority is needed for a movie to be considered fresh.

Tomatoes don’t go from fresh to rotten in a day. Maybe they need middle rating like “ripe” or “juicy.”

I just noticed that Chloe Zhao not only directed, but she wrote the screenplay too. I guarantee you that’s why this movie went wrong. Exact same thing that happened to WW84. Most directors are not good writers. This was Feige’s fatal mistake.

Backtracking on sequels maybe? This is from a producer:
"It's not something that is a must-have. Obviously, we have ideas of where we could go, but there isn't a hard and fast rule where we have to have three of these things and this is the first," Moore said of potential sequels, adding that, "If you just watch Eternals, you can enjoy Eternals, you can understand Eternals and you're good to go."

Damn. This could’ve been an interesting trilogy. The Celestials and their mythology is just so cool and now will likely never be explored further. In this case I have to hope they went all out with them here, and didn’t save them for the sequels we will now never see.

Maybe it's time to think about Iron Man 4. It's not too late to save the MCU.

Feige spread himself too thin , too much on his plate with D+ shows now I think he got over confident. A lot of the stuff released in Phase 4 felt sloppy. Like he was giving the barest guidance and just allowed people to do whatever in the shows. There was a general lack of oversight, quality control and overall consistency with the rest of the MCU.

Phase Four has felt incredibly lazy to me so far. I’m really hoping that turns around with Spider-Man. I was fearful for the MCU the moment those streeeeaaaaming shows were announced. Feige has too much on his plate to maintain quality.
