I think we've seen the last of MLB as a grand big 4 as we knew it.
Baseball seems down to a regional sport, like the NHL, where fans will root for the home team... & barely register much else. Even MLB playoff games, they can add all the post-season games they want, yet if those are shown regionally exclusive at 3pm on a f'n Wed afternoon, good luck.
I think MLS will overtake its mass appeal within 15yrs. MLS & Liga MX are already in talks for a mid-summer North American Leagues Cup involving all 47 sides from each league - beginning in 2023. 2026 North American World Cup hosting will only boost all that jazz.
As I've read over the years, once young American soccer superstars stop quitting for baseball, & keep on going to pro soccer, & domestically... MLB might never be the same.

Sixth day of talks ended with both sides far apart on a deal and players unsure if they’ll be headed home.
Yay.

I drafted a fantasy team because I really needed baseball.
8th pick. That sucks.
Mike Trout is on my team for the first time ever.
Cancelled season.

The cities and states that host MLB teams need to get together and issue a statement that if the season does not begin by May 1st they will consider the owners in breach of their stadium contracts and they will not allow any baseball played at the stadiums in 2022. They will start booking the stadiums for other events. The end.

The pure comedy is that baseball has three crucial issues right now.
1. Making the game sexy for younger kids and inner city youth. Projections say baseball will fall to 4th (football, basketball, soccer) soon, if not already 2. Marketing their stars. Players like Juan Sota and Ronald Acuna should be household names. They aren't. 3. Fixing the situations in Tampa and Oakland. It's a mess and MLB should help
Guess what? Not one of these are an issue in the negotiations. these idiots are fighting over what colors the bathroom curtains are while the front room is on fire.

Not sure what's more dangerous - the baseball fans who care & are angry, or a growing sports base who couldn't give a fcuk about any of this news.

The World Baseball Classic should consider itself lucky to have strong US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, & Caribbean ties to hosting & live fans, not to mention several other credible int'l baseball programs willing to participate. Baseball Champions League would be something. Would a 19yr old Los Angelian recognize Mike Trout walking on the sidewalk? I'd bet not. To the lucky point - baseball might be dead already were it not for fantasy sports. Mike Trout is a name, yet his persona seems to be a ship passing in the night. I think it's ironic that MLB wishes to tighten up Minor League Baseball... all while the likes of the Rays & A's play to no one &/or poor ownership, & those are even their frequent enough playoff contenders. That's insane. At least in the NHL, a few playoff runs can boost a team like the Hurricanes or Coyotes for awhile.

Baseball long ago should have done something on the international level for club play. Obviously it would be silly for the Dodgers or Astros to play South Korean clubs but it would be cool to see something like a NPL-AAA series. Or AA-Cuba or South Korea. And baseball needs to implement an international draft. 16 year old kids from the Dominican get signed to a FA deal and then goes to the lowest rung of the minors. Too much culture shock for a 16 year old kid.
Fantasy baseball and the rich local deals are keeping baseball alive. These huge TV deals started when the labor peace came after 1995. If local networks and advertisers think that this is going to happen every five years, that money will dry up.

I was thinking the strength of international cricket (& all its variations). Not even the NFL has a built-in sport audience # as great as baseball could - N.America, Asia, Latin America... that's a lot of eyeballs & customers.

League says it plans to make its best and final offer to the union before the 5PM deadline. ... so how are you guys gonna spend your baseball-less summer? JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Major League Baseball threatened to let its 5 p.m. deadline for a labor deal pass and start canceling regular season games, saying it would make a final offer to locked out players. The sides made progress during 16 1/2 hours of bargaining Monday but were still far apart on key issues, then recessed talks at 2:30 a.m. The union held a 2 1/2-hour call with players representatives on Tuesday and followed with an offer that MLB responded to with its threat. Baseball’s ninth work stoppage is in its 90th day.
