Oh well, out of the AL East, out of the AL. Jays will have 1-3 new arms by February.

Today, the Mets signed Eduardo Escobar (2 years, $20m), Mark Canha (2 years, $26m) and Starling Marte (4 years, $78m). Not a bad Black Friday spending spree!
Escobar will replace the all-bat-and-zero-glove JD Davis at the hot corner. Canha I'm guessing will play right field and Marte will be the everday CF, pushing Brandon Nimmo to left. This gives them an outstanding everyday CF that they haven't had in years in Marte, an elite on-base machine in Canha (who complements Nimmo atop the order and suddenly gives the Mets a lot of outfield flexibility and on-base skills) and a power hitting corner infielder. Sign me up!

Steve Cohen is the richest owner in baseball. If you’re gonna go over the cap, you may as well blow past it to make the penalty worthwhile.

Phightens rumored to be a darkhorse for Trevor Story I like it - if Dommy doesn't end up getting me Correa

I was half joking but they’re not quite there yet. I haven’t looked at what their total 2022 payroll is at this point but here is hoping someone spikes Robbie Cano’s coffee or something and he gets suspended for another year. That will free up some space.

That will free up some space. McNeill's out? Edit: Conforto too? McNeil is definitely gone. He’s a good hitter but he’s such an annoying spaz. There was a lot of scuttlebutt about how he isn’t liked by his teammates, and that he is something of an incessant complainer. Conforto was probably gone anyway but signing Marte and Canha seals his fate. Nice player who will benefit from a change of scenery and who developed into a quality RF over the years. Still, the money he will get, even coming off a down year, will exceed what Canha and Marte are getting combined (total contract value, not AAV), and both are better overall players, though Conforto has them beat on power.

Pads trade Adam Frazier to the M's for two minor leaguers. I would have rather kept Kyle Seager.

They've been a fairly nondescript franchise since those World Series - - at least they are doing something to try to change that.
