Damn, I can remember plans to sneak down after my parents went to sleep to watch American Gigolo. We had HBO in 1980 but my parents were bitches about R rated movies. I had heard you seen "EVERYTHING".
You didn't

We had cable sometime in the early to mid 80s (probably around 1984) and for a period of time we had all the channels including HBO, The Movie Channel, and Cinemax. I think for a short period of time we even had the Playboy channel. Eventually my Dad decided it wasn’t worth paying for the premium channels but I know at least one occasion my parents were watching Flashdance and my brother and I were banished to our bedrooms or outside. Still haven’t seen that movie. Haha. Watching the scrambled channels late at night was a favorite pastime.

Still haven’t seen that movie. Haha. Watching the scrambled channels late at night was a favorite pastime. Some don't believe this, but out part of the city had been wired for cable all my life. Even in the 60's. 12 channels (well, 11, Channel 6 was blank). We got the three networks in Buffalo, PBS, two stations from Canada, one from Rochester and three independent NYC stations. No antenna, a summer full of the Yankees and Mets. in about 1975, the dead Channel 6 became HBO. I remember it as mostly sports. The movies were newer. But we didn't think anything of it, we always had movies of TV and there was no swearing or nudity. I can't remember what movie, but we lost our minds when we heard "fuck" over the TV for the first time. And you got to see an occasional breast (hey, I was just a teen boy). American Gigolo was the one, that was rumored to be almost porn and the only one I really remember having to see.
One of the best days of the month was when the little HBO guide came. OOh, how we fought over that. Everyone wanted to see what was on.
