Watched it for the first time in about 15 years yesterday. Damn, what a great film. So many memorable scenes, quotable lines, masterly shots. And don't forget one of the best soundtracks of a time. I feel like this movie is overlooked at times, perhaps seen as Goodfellas 2.0, with Joe Pesci essentially playing the same character. In my opinion, every bit as good as Goodfellas.

I think it's great to have 'Goodfellas' and 'Casino', like two sides of a criminal coin. You don't need to burn out on one as you have the other to watch next. I feel it's just like having the first two 'Godfather' movies in the gangster spectrum, or having 'Scarface' and 'Carlito's Way'. Or having 'The Roaring Twenties' and 'Angels With Dirty Faces'.

I remember us talking about the film for its 25th anniversary last year and this is what I said: imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/251693/25th-anniversary-casino-november-22nd"I've noticed in recent months here that when some people talk about Casino they say they like it more than highly-regarded Scorsese films like Goodfellas. While I don't know if I'd put Casino above Goodfellas (or other highly-regarded Scorsese films like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull), it's still a solid Scorsese film with memorable performances, robust humor, rich dialogue, and violence that doesn't shy away from being brutal. For me, the movie just does enough differently in comparison to other Scorsese mob movies like Goodfellas to go against the criticism that Scorsese was being derivative and just going over old territory (even though I get why people would say the criticisms that they say). If I see the movie playing on TV, there's a good chance I'll end up tuning in and watching some of it. It feels like one of Scorsese's most purely entertaining movies he has done."

I know what you mean. It feels like it's an unofficial sequel to Goodfellas.

I saw it on TV a couple of months ago. It was edited, so lines like "You Jew motherfucker you!" became "You Jew moneylover you!". Kinda defeats the purpose if your censored version is more offensive than the uncensored one.
I think the movie does invite a bit too many comparisons to Goodfellas. I kinda wish Ace at least was played by another actor. It's hard to unsee De Niro as violent and threatening in a Scorsese movie. Pesci is just playing Tommy again, but he does it well. Stone steals the movie.

Excellent film. Pesci has never been more terrifying. Every bit the equal of Goodfellas, with moments of violence that shocked even me. Sharon Stone delivered the performance of her life as well. The 3-hour runtime was a bit of a struggle for me, but it's a masterpiece for sure.

I always rated it a little higher than Goodfellas, although I like The King of Comedy more than both of them.

But there isn't really anything offensive about it really.

I much prefer it to Goodfellas. The characters are crazier & there's more levity for my liking. Goodfellas with too many viewings leaves all its exposition pretty forgettable.
