If Clint Eastwood acted in a Walter Hill movie, that would have been the ultimate action flick.

Bras Pitt with either Scorsese or Spielberg. I know Pitt was in a "short film" Scorsese directed, but that was really just a glorified commercial. I'd like to see them do a real movie together.

David Cronenberg and Jon Lovitz Clearly he was a better choice to play Johnny Smith in The Dead Zone.

Shoulda made that King Lear movie from The Lost World video store. Surely there was a role for him in Schindler’s List.

OK, so offhand… (Actor first, director second for no reason.)
William Powell and Ernst Lubitsch
Myrna Loy and Ernst Lubitsch
Bela Lugosi and James Whale
Nicolas Cage and Tim Burton
Boris Karloff and Tim Burton (if we’re in the realm of fantasy… Burton was 11 when Karloff died)
Patrick McGoohan and John Carpenter (somehow a combo I think would work, McGoohan’s amazing histrionics complementing Carpenter’s Hawksian straightforwardness—though McGoohan might have tried to rewrite the script, Orson-Welles-style)
OK, whom am I forgetting? I know I’ll think of more as soon as I post this.

Charles Laughton directing any of his contemporaries in any genre. Perhaps a comedy to follow Night of the Hunter.
