SI - Tom Brady Admits to Feeling 'Scared' Before First AFC Championship AppearanceHe was hiding the fear pretty well pregame when he looked like he was trying to give himself a concussion with all the headbutts he was giving out. The final drive of the game started at their own 15 yard line with 1:21 remaining and no timeouts, and ended on the STL 30 for the GW FG attempt. Needless to say it was all passes that got them there. Not bad for a guy scared out of his mind. Also, credit to Belichick for having the balls to go for it in that scenario. Madden was talking the whole time about how the Patriots should just take a knee and play for OT, having given up two TDs in the 4th qtr to tie the game and being backed up deep in their own territory. Guess he figured he had nothing to lose. As fans we definitely wanted them to go for the win as we were watching it. Having trouble reading again, old chap lol? Brady said he was scared before the AFC title game - he was probably confident before the Super Bowl because of the extra time he'd spent watching those illegal tapes of the Rams' practices.

Ha, totally misread that. I just saw 'first championship appearance.' You'll have to excuse me, as a Pats fan I don't get excited about conference championships. It actually makes sense now. 100 things had to break our way to win that game, and that's what happened. Troy Brown was incredible on special teams, Bledsoe came in for an injured Brady and threw a TD, you name it and it happened.

Man sounds like a way for Brady to further inflate an already storied and well read ego maybe.

Honestly 2007 still bugs me, should've been Chargers year.

I remember that play. Troy Brown keeps popping up again and again in Patriots lore. He bailed Brady out again in the Divisional round against the Chargers in '06. Brady threw a pick with 6 minutes left, down 8 in the 4th, but Brown ripped the ball out during the return and the Pats recovered. They would go on to win that game, we'll never know what happens if Troy Brown doesn't make that heads up play. It's stuff like that that puts him on the Pats Mt. Rushmore.

In the moment watching it on tv, I felt like BB was letting his guys have 2-3 plays to show him something, otherwise head straight to OT. The Rams had taken over momentum in the 2nd half & maybe the Patriots D wasn't as strong & sure as it was in the 1st half. As a fan, I funnily enough also felt like they had nothing to lose. They weren't backed up all that much, & Vinatieri's range wasn't going to need a miracle drive, just a soundly executed one that Tom delivered.

2001 season was such a blur. Colts were still in the AFC East, & Manning went 0-2 against the Patriots.

The Patriots, hell all of Boston sports were largely a joke throughout the entire 1990s. Sure the Pats went to Super Bowl 31, did you think they could win? Did you think they'd keep it as close as they did?

In times now, fans are livid if their team took 2 knees and headed for halftime/OT. Of course, a lot of rule changes have made things a bit easier on offenses since 2001.

I thought you were making this up. I saw this article the other day and it made me chuckle. He hates the Colts, and he should. They invented a scandal because they couldn't beat their archrivals on the field, it's an embarrassing part of their legacy more than his. It was funny to hear Mr. Positivity talk shit like that after a game.

Episode 4 - Super Bowl 42 (2007 season) Hey, I might actually watch this one. I don't like how it short changed 2005 and 2006. Brady got to the AFC Championship game in 06 with Jabar Gafney starting 6 games, Doug Gabriel starting 5 games and Reche Caldwell starting 14 games.

Is Brady the unluckiest quarterback in history?
Not drafted early. Not starting right away.
2007 superbowl: 2 guys drop game sealing interceptions, other qb escapes a sack for the first time in his career and throws a wobbler up for grabs that a 5th string receiver catches with his helmet.
2008: A Chiefs player intentionally tears his ACL in a year he was a heavy favorite to go to the superbowl again and probably throw 50 touchdowns again.
2011 superbowl: an all-pro receiver has the ball hit both of his hands and drops a game sealing 1st down.
Aaron Hernandez forgets he can be a champion and would rather be a crime boss.
2014 superbowl: A guy catches a ball in the 4th quarter after kicking it up into the air.
Any other quarterback you know have two superbowls lost due to an all-pro dropping a pass (Samuel, Welker) and a third likely superbowl lost due to injury?
