One of those movies taking on greater meaning since becoming a father 11 years ago. It’s almost strange to see future James Bond actor Daniel Craig play such an evil little shit. Even as a hitman for the Irish mob, Tom Hanks still can’t shake his likability. Conrad L. Hall won his third Oscar for cinematography and it’s no surprise why. Combined with Thomas Newman’s score, the beauty is almost overwhelming at times.

A mob drama that I've always enjoyed.

7.5/10. Good mixture of Prohibition violence and father-son bonding.

Somber movie and a companion piece with Leon: The Professional.
Assassins Hanks and Reno are both charged with the protection of minors (a son in Hank's case, a scarred orphaned girl in Reno's) targeted by gangsters and the Law, the latter exemplified by a corrupt Gary Oldman. While the central events differ widely in each movie, we are totally immersed in the personal relationships between each couple that leads to a similar conclusion in both films, after which we are left wondering about the lifelong repercussions resulting from their warped childhoods.

It’s grown on me. I remember not liking it much when I first saw it.

Very good movie... alas, Tom Hanks in that role I'm never pulled in as dark or deep as I should.
Jude Law f'ing criminally underrated & underappreciated here btw... wtf, never spoken of lols.

A very good movie! Many didn't know it at the time, but here we said goodbye to screen legend Paul Newman in his last movie role. Sure he did a little voice acting and some TV acting later.
