The river and the rain forest combined. I guess the river, since it created the rain forest. I certainly try not to think of the capitalist monopoly which stole its name.
The Greek myth of female warriors is a good one.

9 fools voted for Jeff Bezos. I'm a fool. I've spent more time on AMAZON than in the Amazon, sadly.

Maybe all the countries in the Amazon basin should sue Bezos for copyright infringement or something. Have you been been there? (the rainforest, not the website...)

No, I've never been to Brazil. Have you? Yup. I'm a travel nerd. I went to the rainforest in Peru, Bolivia and Brazil, and even took a cargo ship down the Amazon. I liked it, but I'm quite fond of forests in general. One day, we went fishing for piranhas to eat for dinner, and then we jumped right into the river and went swimming. That freaked me out a bit. Those little guys have very sharp teeth, obviously, but apparently they're not quite as fearsome as the old TV shows portrayed them to be. My guide did have a nasty scar on his ankle where he got bit by a piranha, but that was from a piranha flopping around in the bottom of the boat, not from being in the water. I'd like to go back sometime. I really enjoy the wild places.

I trust Bezos never bit your ankle.

I just finished watching the first episode of The Wheel of Time on my newly purchased Amazon tablet so please forgive me for thinking of the company.

I trust Bezos never bit your ankle. Eh, it's been a while, like 8 years, give or take. I spent most of the pandemic bored and trolling AMAZON for crap I didn't really need, so that's why that came to my mind first. I hope things will eventually get back to normal, but I'm starting to doubt it will. I'm just glad I got most of my traveling done when I did.

He almost named the company Cadabra but that’s now a computer algebra system for field theory problems. Copy and paste!

I do remember when Amazon was merely a bookstore. My aunt gave me a gift certificate for it, and I was not amused. Things have changed a bit over the years.

I didn’t know about it until just over an hour ago. He could have gone for Bezos Books and Tapes but that wouldn’t look so awesome after he’d raked in the first billion dollars.

The company. But that’s because you typically wouldn’t bring up the Amazon jungle (nor the others) as a one-worded subject line in General Discussion.

It's largely a matter of context.
AMAZON in General Discussion has brought an immediate thought of "The Company"
AMAZON in Travel (If there were such a board) more likely = "Rainforest" or "River"
edit: I see that another great mind had the same thought here at the current end of the thread

9 fools voted for Jeff Bezos. You need to update your tally, Game. As I type this, it's now up to 20. As Mystery and Ollie pointed out, much depends on context.
