I'm a straight guy, but let me give my point of view as I grew up loving the movie, franchise, cartoons and video games of Ghostbusters. Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), if you find his humor contagious, you'll find him attractive.
Peter Venkman has an undeniable charm to him. Whether he gets every girl or not he flirts with, but he never comes off as a total jerk or weirdo. Venkman also has class to all of his humor and simply gets the smile out of every female character and the respect of his male characters in the film. I personally think Egon would be the more attractive of all four ghostbusters in the film; Egon has all of the smarts, gadgets and the full head of hair. Venkman's humor does go a long ways, though. It give this movie a more edgier comedy that a lot of great 80s movies did have. If Murray wasn't in this movie we most likely would have gotten something more sappy.
I list twelve examples/scenes of where Venkman's humor shines and integrity exists. If you find Venkman attractive it would most likely have to do with one of these scenes below. Gifs included, enjoy! (;
1. "Venkman and the female student" - You see Venkman's charm in his first onscreen minutes in the film, which deliberately also insults a male student in the same scene. Venkman after performing electric shocks calmly tells the male student, "Iām studying the effect of negative reinforcement on ESP ability." Male student shouts frustratingly, "The effect? I'll tell you what the effect is, it's pissing me off!" Venkman, "Well, then maybe my theory is correct!" The male student charges off, "You can keep the 5 bucks." Venkman, "I will, mister!" I don't know how serious he was at studying to be a scientist, if anything I think he was gaining the interests of people's connections more than anything, which gave him the drive you see him have the entire rest of the film. Venkman inevitably gets the female student to smile and compliments her (false) intelligence. (:2. "Venkman meets the library ghost" - Venkman quickly realizes his friends have no idea what they're doing when finding an actual ghost. Every scene leading you through the aisles of books and physical evidence of a ghost being real, Venkman continues to doubt them. Finally, Venkman becomes a believer. Venkman looks at both Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) asking them, "So what do we do?" In which they have no clear answer for. Venkman is then thrown under the bus to have to make first contact with the spectre and approaches the library ghost, "Hello. Where are you from... originally?" The library ghost, "Shhhh." It's the moment when he becomes the voice of the (future) Ghostbusters. Venkman if you watch carefully wasn't even terrified when running away from the library ghost. Not as much as Ray who ran backwards and Egon who hopped backwards, Venkman just rushed normal out the library hallway. (:3. "Venkman and friends" - When the group of scientists get kicked out of school, they're really lost knowing they'll have to all go into getting jobs. Venkman, for a character who was in complete disbelief about his friends, now has the most ambition amongst them all. Ray doesn't think it can work, "Personally, I liked the university. They gave us money and facilities, we didn't have to produce anything! You've never been out of college! You don't know what it's like out there! I've worked in the private sector. They expect results." The confident and drinking Venkman, "For whatever reasons Ray, call it fate, call it luck, call it karma. I believe everything happens for a reason. I believe we were destined to get thrown out of this dump." Ray, "For what purpose?" Venkman, "To go into business for ourselves." Venkman encourages Ray to sell his childhood home (for the money), to find the car and the building where they can work and live on something that might work. (:4. "Venkman meets Slimer" - If Venkman had any doubts in ghosts or the business working, they were going to show if not for the first ghost of Slimer that they capture. Not only are their proton packs weapons of mass destruction, they never did a skills test of any kind leading up to the haunting of the New York hotel. When Venkman finally sees the ghost, "It's right here, Ray. It's looking at me." Ray over the walkie-talkie, "He's an ugly looking spud, isn't it?" Venkman, "Ray, I think he can hear you." Although Venkman now believes in the evil looking ghosts, he does exactly what Ray tells him to do and does not move. I don't know if you want to think of it as brave considering he screams and screams hard into the walkie-talkie the entire attack. He at least takes it like a man. Venkman with one of the most famous quotes on all comedy movies lists, "He slimed me." (:5. "Venkman is in business" - Venkman takes charge of his friends and the group catches their first out-of-control ghost in the trap. Both men are now at his side with their business venture, he's confident, they're confident. In his first charging estimates, "Let's talk seriously. Now, for the entrapment, we're gonna have to ask you... for four big ones, Four thousand dollars for that. But we are having a special this week on proton charging and storage of the beast and that's only gonna come to one thousand dollars, fortunately." The unnerved Hotel Manager, "Five thousand dollars? I had no idea it'd be so much. I won't pay it." Venkman, "Well, that's all right. We can just put it right back in there. Thank you." Ray, "We certainly can, Dr. Venkman." Hotel Manager, "No, no, NO! All right. Anything."
I can only imagine Venkman having that conversation every time over when capturing a ghost from all businesses. (:6. "Venkman checks out Dana's apartment" - Venkman finally meets a girl he has a connection with, even if the connection is mostly one-sided at this point. Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) is strong-willed, smart and scared. When he and the group builds up her courage with going back to check out her apartment. When their Venkman analyzes Dana on her home life, dating life and frame of mind. Dana sees him check the rooms, "That's the bedroom, but nothing ever happened in there." Venkman being charming, "What a crime." Venkman brings out her smile and Dana brings out his corniness, "You know, you don't act like a scientist." Trying-to-look-serious Venkman, "They're usually pretty stiff." Dana, "You're more like a game show host." By the end of the visit Dana thinks she's just as crazy as before and feels like the Ghostbusters were a giant waste of time. Venkman knows himself Dana Barrett was not at all a waste of time to meet. (:7. "Venkman asks Dana on a date" - Venkman does his researched and impresses Dana with the entire history he found both on her apartment building and the name, Zuul. It certainly gets Dana's attention and shows Venkman does have an interest in her well-being. When he gets the courage to ask her out, which doesn't work. He continues, "Ms. Barrett, you seem to think there is something wrong up here that says in your mind, he enjoys taking his evenings off and spending it with his clients. No, I'm making an exception." Dana smiles, "An exception." Venkman, "...Because, I respect you. It's corny, but I respect you as an artist." Dana agrees to go out with him, blushing as she leaves with a man she knows. Venkman continues to speak over the nearby water fountain. When Venkman shouts out at Dana's guy friend as she tries to leave, "I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you, sir. And I'm glad you're feeling much better, you're still very pale, though! Just get a little sun!" (:8. "Venkman finds out Dana's Zuul" - Venkman enters Dana's now slime covered apartment, pretending to be the Keymaster. Venkman still never breaks character to both his humor and care for Dana. He doesn't know what's going on, somehow able to still leave Dana's company without being attacked. He tries his best to talk to Dana only to get the response from Dana, "There is no Dana, there is only Zuul." Venkman, "Oh, Zuulie, you nut, now c'mon. Just relax, c'mon. I want to talk to Dana. Dana, Dana. Can I talk to Dana?" Dana responds in a demonic-like voice, "There is no Dana, only Zuul!" Venkman jokes, "What a lovely singing voice you must have." He knows something is terribly wrong without any answers. Even when possessed Dana tries to make out with him, he's a gentleman and stops her from doing so. Venkman for the most part carries this hope that everything will turnout alright, for Dana more than himself. While he's in jail he continues to sing and make jokes about Dana's possession. (;9. "Venkman versus Walter Peck" - The two men got off on the wrong foot when Peck wants to investigate Venkman on being a complete fake or not. Peck, "Now you either show me what is down there, or I come back with a court order." Venkman protects his place of business and replies back, "You go get a court order, and I'll sue your funny ass for wrongful prosecution." The stern Peck, "You can have it your way, Mr. Venkman." It's the main time you see Venkman fight and stand-up for what he believes in; which are ghosts, his business, his friends, and the haunting of Dana Barrett. Venkman and his crew get their last word in. Ray, "Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by dickless here." The angry Peck, "They caused an explosion!" The skeptical Mayor, "Is this true?" The serious Venkman, "Yes it's true. This man has no dick." (:10. "Venkman versus The Marshmallow Man" - Near what could be the end for all of the Ghostbusters, Dana Barrett and the people of New York, Venkman never loses his sense of humor. Although it is technically Ray's fault why the Marshmallow Man comes to fruition; Venkman doesn't at all blame him. Again, Venkman has full confidence that they're all going to get out of this mess one way or another. To Ray, Egon and Winston (Ernie Hudson) he tells them, "We've been going about this all wrong. This Mr. Stay Puft's okay! He's a sailor, he's in New York; we get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble!" There's definitely a lot of sexual and dirty humor to Dr. Venkman, but it does become contagious to give all of the people he cares about the confidence they need.
Overall, Venkman is what gets the group through every situation they found themselves in. He might've not been able to help Dana at her apartment, but I think it's the basis to why he never once gave up when everything went wrong with the ghosts running wild and coming of Gozer. (:11. "Venkman versus Gozer" - Venkman, "Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown." The end battle really comes down to Egon suggesting the crossing of the streams idea to the group. In which Venkman continues to make light of the situation, "You're gonna endanger us, you're gonna endanger our client - the nice lady, who paid us in advance, before she became a dog." Egon with his own little humor, "Not necessarily. There's definitely a very slim chance we'll survive." As all of the group looks at each other, Venkman slaps Ray's cheek, "I love this plan! I'm excited it could work! Let's do it!" I think all of this is the clear example of Venkman's humor being sexy, so much that he brings out the humore of everybody else in the film. I loved the line Venkman says when they have their streams out, "See you on the other side, Ray." Ray smiles, "Same to you, Dr. Venkman." (:12. "Venkman saves Dana" - I think the end scene on the rooftop is the only entire scene we do not see Venkman make a single joke. Just as he thinks Dana is dead when seeing the Zuul statue, he catches Dana's fingers trying to dig out from within the rock figure. Him and the group break and hit apart the limbs first with Dana's rock figure and then onto Louis'. Venkman doesn't stop until ht has Dana in his arms carrying her out. Dana standing to her feet, "Oh... where am I?" When Dana sees Venkman holding her, "Oh... hi." At this moment Venkman could've said anything, crack a joke, but he doesn't. The most important thing to him at this point is still there with him. It would've been a good time for a kiss there on the delapidated rooftop, but Louis fills in that comic relief. Louis, "The superintendent's gonna be pissed!" Venkman gets the first kiss we see him have the whole movie in front of all of New York. (: If somebody doesn't find everything above attractive, then you're living under a rock, lol. Venkman is a stud in his own right. Next to the movie "Groundhog Day," I think it's the most romantic/attractive movie Bill Murray did in his career. You can't help but wonder how this movie was supposed to star actor Chevy Chase in the role of Dr. Peter Venkman, imagine how that would have turned out; certainly more humor than heart. Chase several years ago said he would now do a movie called 'Ghost Milk' if he could. I think when straight guys think of how much they love this movie, it's always for how relatable they find Dr. Venkman in themselves. (:

No. But that's not why Catman watches the movie.
