Remember in the old Medeival kingdom days when the king would tax his citizens as much as he possibly could without causing a revolt? All he wanted was the good life and a bunch of peons, farmers and trade workers etc, busting their asses so he didn't have to. Isn't that pretty much what this whole capitalism thing is about today? Doesn't the GOP just want to incessantly transfer every possible dime from the workers to the rich? And with each million sent up they get a few extra incentive dollars in kickbacks. Is anyone else seeing this? Is it just me?

kings faced revolts from their barons all the time in the middle ages, not until renaissance era did kings have that much power, and it was because they built tax bureaucracies

Yes of course. They still do.
I may be missing your point, but you know as well as I do that taxation has been going on since the beginning of recorded history.
