Has anyone gotten to see this yet at all?. didnt love it. walked out about 15-20 minutes before the end. I did enjoy Denzels peformance a lot. He is such a powerful on screen presence. The color of his skin doesnt matter. He is the shit. But the movie was meh for my taste. It would have been (as it was) a great play. Not a movie that was as stripped of everything movie like as this was. Also, I cant wait for this fad of making movies in square ratio to disapear again. It very rarely adds anything. Ghost story and the 90ties being exception to the rule. 6.5/10 but all points are for Denzel.

Ghost story and the 90ties being exception to the rule. I like the format, granted I obviously wouldn't want every film shot in the narrower ratio, but I like that it's becoming a more acceptable option. Funnily what I don't like is switching ratios within a film (eg. Grand Budapest Hotel). A few others that I've enjoyed where I thought the narrower ratio helped the film: Meek's Cutoff (2010) - mimicked the female protagonists bonnet-obscured view Ida (2013) - mainly aesthetic, emphasised height and the characters viewed extemely low in the frame, reminiscent of Carl Th. Dreyer Horse Money (2014) - added to the painterly nature of the work A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery (2016) - the height gave it a more grand gothic feel and the scenes in the jungle which were most of the film added to the feeling of the jungle engulfing the characters and being an otherworldly presence First Reformed (2017) - added to the formal and rigid feel of the film which reflected the themes. Again recalls Dreyer, Bresson, and Bergman, huge influences on the film The Lighthouse (2019) - added to the claustrophobic atmosphere i'm thinking of ending things (2020) - added to the extremely insular nature of the film Others that worked but may arguably have worked equally in a wider format Jauja (2014) The Assassin (2015)

Couldnt Stand it in The French Dispatch Looking forward to that, interested in seeing Wes tackle Black and White. Switching between color and B&W doesn't seem to bother me as much for some reason.

Both are very different this version excised bit of text from the middle, as a way to create a leaner, intimate illustration regarding fate and ultimate resignation of fate as well. It also serves as a way to further embolden Macbeth and Banquo's dynamic, my one problem was this version Shortchanged Macduff a little, his character while not the most fascinating feels a bit hindered by motivation in many ways ultimately, personally I preferred this version versus Kurtzel's but preferred Marion versus Mcdormand.

I've not yet seen it. Visually it looks like it takes a lot from Welles' 1948 version. The boxy B&W framing and stark theatrical sets.
