No kidding? And Cumberbatch? I don't see him winning, Smith and Washington have undeniable narratives right now.

didnt love it, no performance really stood out, felt emotionall really flat except of one scene, didnt have a real punch to it plus felt somewhat derivative and painfully obvious. could have been a great novel i am sure.
but as a movie it was just ok for what it was but nothing great. too bad, i was rooting for it. AA critics will love it though.
PS: was I SUPPOSED to root for Phill?

No kidding? And Cumberbatch? good as always but i feel like he simply had stronger material to perform elsewhere. this felt like he was going for the daniel day lewis moment but the script simply couldnt have taken him there.

Smith will most likely win unless he keeps saying weird crap, if voters have had enough most may be willing to annoint one of the best current working actors right now a third ala overdue narrative, plus Washington came close in 2016.

I'd say Cumberbatch does a great job of really embodying a repressed man who masks his flagrant self among everybody in his life, his slight smiles and fixed glances are a factoid of uncovering who Phil really is whole he wears a veil of uncouth torrid questionability, I feel like Cumberbatch would be our frontrunner feasibly if not for a year which includes a couple well beloved actors.

PS: was I SUPPOSED to root for Phill? I’ve just listened to an interview with Benedict Cumberbatch and, although he admitted that his take on Phil was affected by playing him, he thought the character was on the cusp of improvement. I didn’t get into the film much but I seem to appreciate it more thinking about it and the photography was pretty awesome at times.

Him and Peter were the pivotal characters and although I liked Phil’s brother and Peter’s mother they were there mainly as supporting characters but could have been better served. I also liked the two women in the house and seeing Keith Carradine pop up briefly.

Your not supposed to root for Phil ... yeah thats what i thought. thats part of why to me the movie somewhat failed in its intention/ executions. nobody else was interesting even a bit...

Easily one of the best films of 2021 . I was expecting big things ever since I saw the awesome teaser trailer and it didn't disappoint. I hope Jane Campion at least gets a Best Director nom and Kodi Smit-McPhee gives his best performance to date )I've been a fan of this dude since seeing him in The Road and he was outstanding in this )
The Power of the Dog will easily make my top 10 of 2021. I highly recommend it

I mean I definitely feel your allowed to feel empathy, hes a man masking his nature by means of the facade he wears.
