The reason why so many sequels are unnecessary is that they're created even after the characters have completed their journeys. And THE PRINCESS SWITCH PART 3: ROMANCING THE STAR has taken the next step. Instead of giving Stacy and Margaret new arcs, they're turned into supporting characters and the protagonism is given to a villain. Is it at least a villain that has been in this trilogy since the beginning? Someone that viewers can feel attached to on more or less the same level as the 2 heroines and their husbands? No, it's Fiona from PART 2. As if that wasn't bad enough, Stacy and Margaret pretend to be her while Fiona is simply herself (they're in 3 different places at the same time). In the previous installments, Vanessa Hudgens was clearly aware of the subtleties that come with each personality and background. That's why it was impressive to see her play different characters who pretended to be one another. Since Fiona is such a cartoon, every gesture and line delivery is over the top. It feels like any actor could do it. As a matter of fact, isn't this franchise supposed to be a modern-day fairy tale about love during the holidays that happens to include zany antics? Because this installment is a heist comedy. It has subplots about romance and family drama, but for the most part, the Christmassy atmosphere isn't present. Maybe I wouldn't mind all these issues so much had I not been bored out of my mind! 1/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
