Pretty good mix of older classics and more recent fare. Interesting though that he's one who has been a detractor of comic book movies, yet two of them appear on the list.
1. It’s a Wonderful Life – Frank Capra (1946)
2. The Godfather – Francis Ford Coppola (1972)
3. Fantasia -Walt Disney (1940)
4. A Guy Named Joe – Victor Fleming (1943)
5. Guardians of the Galaxy – James Gunn (2014)
6. War of the Worlds – Byron Haskin (1953)
7. Psycho – Alfred Hitchcock (1960)
8. 2001: A Space Odyssey – Stanley Kubrick (1968)
9. Lawrence of Arabia – David Lean (1962)
10. Untouchable – Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano (2011)
11. The Dark Knight – Christopher Nolan (2008)
12. The 400 Blows – François Truffaut (1959)
13. Day for Night – François Truffaut (1973)
14. Citizen Kane – Orson Welles (1941)
15. Captains Courageous – Victor Fleming (1937)
16. The Best Years of Our Lives – William Wyler (1946)
17. The Searchers – John Ford (1956)
18. Tootsie – Sydney Pollack (1982)
19. Seven Samurai – Akira Kurosawa (1954)
20. Dumbo – Walt Disney (1941)

How great would it be if he listed 20 of his own films? Just take out a full page ad in any publication of himself adjusting his glasses with his middle finger with a list of his 20 favorite films, all directed by him.

Has he been that harsh when it came to superhero movies though? Besides I think he’s still attached to direct a Blackhawk movie for the DCEU.

He seems to be fond of the vintage 40s Disney stuff. Makes sense given his age.
I wouldn't agree with a lot of those but am glad to see Psycho, The Godfather and The Dark Knight on the list.
Guardians of the Galaxy is a surprise. I would have guessed one of the early Star Wars instead.

It's a Wonderful Life seems a fitting #1. It's the kind of movie he'd make. Others (TDK, Citizen Kane) seem a little cynical for his tastes, but hey.
On the other hand, Guardians is the kind of movie he'd have made 35 years ago so I'm curious what he loved so much about it as a 66 year old man.
