Here's a clip of Andy Devine. Remember him?
And our question: There is a movie with a cold and cruel villain. He will be killed in the movie's exciting climax. This movie has a handsome and athletic hero. He will ultimately be victorious and get the girl. But in the movie's exciting climax it is not the handsome and athletic hero who kills the cold and cruel villain. The villain is killed...by Andy Devine. Name that movie.
And here's a hint: The remake of this movie, 21 years later, used footage from the original.

Aha -- I knew it all along!
So it wasn't Ransom Stoddard OR Tom Doniphon.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was --
Marshal Luke Appleyard!

Really now, Matt, I do wish you would treat Nitpicky Trivia with the utmost seriousness and respect demanded of it.

So--feature films only? That time on Andy's Gang when he plunked Froggy's magic twanger too hard and killed him doesn't count?

Thanks for the Devine challenge Isapop... Here he is, Andy as Abdullah, he was fourth billed behind "B" actor Turhan Bey who was dubbed "The Turkish Delight" . Six films later... Hall, Montez, Bey and Devine, were back together in "Sudan"

manfromplanetxpost game OT commentary I had never seen Terhune Bey and to fix that gap in my movie experiencing, I watched The Amazing Mr. X. and was pleasantly surprised. It was a pretty good, tho' predictable, little Saturday afternoon spooky mystery. The film is also known as "The Spiritualist" and I think I would have watched it sooner with that title. On the lookout for more with Terhune.
