Still the crown jewel of Sylvester Stallone's career as a writer and actor. Still a top boxing drama. I don't think it deserved Best Picture of 1976, but it's still a solid film with memorable characters. To this day, people still get riled up from the famous score and have even been inspired to exercise because of it. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Rocky (1976) - 3.5 out of 4 stars
"This story of a two-bit fighter who gets his "million-to-one" shot" for fame, and self-respect, in a championship bout is impossible to dislike, even though it's just an old B movie brought up to date. Knowing that the film was a similar do-or-die project for writer-star Stallone added to its good vibes. Oscar winner for Best Picture, Director, Editing (Richard Halsey, Scott Conrad). Followed by five sequels. Later a Broadway musical." The famous Rocky steps 45 years later:

It’s been scientifically proven Rocky music (especially Rocky IV) gets people pumped up. As for the movie, it’s one of my favorites. One of the earliest movies, along with Marathon Man and Bound for Glory, to use the Steadicam.

Thought is was a good underdog story and it somehow still is.
Little did we know that Stallone back then would still play Balboa nowdays.

Excellent movie that catapulted Stallone into the ranks of superstardom. The actor was as hungry for success as his fictional character/alter ego, which makes Rocky a personal double triumph both on and off screen. His acting range may be limited, but he approaches every role in earnest, whether as an action hero in Rambo or the emotionally tortured sheriff in Copland (arguably his best performance)
If you could rope together all the underdog movies ever made and call them a subgenre, the first Rocky would be among the best. Manipulative? Sure. But also dramatic, sentimental, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen (ripe for satire) and thoroughly entertaining.
