A light, easy, breezy, fun, slick, commercial, popcorn caper film from Steven Soderbergh who seems like he made this movie just for the fun of it. Although the characters are thin, only just "act cool", never are in any real danger, and the actors aren't pushing themselves with their performances, the actors are clearly having a good time together and still fun to watch (that's why we're really watching anyway). Too bad Don Cheadle's cockney accent doesn't work so well. The standard caper story from screenwriter Ted Griffin itself works well enough though to entertain and Soderbergh gives the proceedings a slick polish and execution. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Ocean's Eleven (2001) - 2 out of 4 stars"Remarkably lifeless caper film, based in name only on the 1960 Rat Pack film, with ex-con Clooney masterminding a major Las Vegas heist and gathering ten other "specialists" to pull it off. It also turns out that his victim, casino mogul Garcia, is keeping company with Clooney's ex-wife (Roberts). There's nothing in the script to elicit interest in any of these characters, who succeed only in being "cool." The real standout is old pro Reiner! Cameos include Angie Dickinson and Henry Silva, of the 1960 cast. Don Cheadle appears unbilled. Followed by two sequels. Super 35."

A movie I had zero interest in 20 years ago. Nothing has changed.

A supremely and utterly boring film for me. I don't think I've ever made it through the whole thing.

Honestly both this and original are pretty boring. I’m not sure what everyone likes about Soderbergh, but his movies have always been boring.

I am not sure if I ever re-watched it but I remember liking it a lot when it came out.
"You are a liar and a thief" "I only lied about being a thief"
At the time I tried watching the original one with Frank Sinatra but I didn't get very far - I had to turn it off after less than 20 minutes.

It's a rare remake that's better than the original film. I liked the ensemble cast and the fast-paced, fun atmosphere. It's one of my favorite heist films. I give it an 8/10.

I like all three of these quite a bit, as well as the lady-led Ocean's 8. Fun, cool movies that didn't take themselves seriously.

Decades had a piece on it this morning which will be repeated this evening !
They sure seemed to have enjoyed the film making experience even if some of the viewers liked it not quite as much.
I have a copy of it and the original ... not yet viewed.

I'm sure hanging out with Brad Pitt and George Clooney in Vegas and whatnot is fun. These movies however always felt like self-indulgent afterthoughts.

These movies however always felt like self-indulgent afterthoughts. Well Ocean's Twelve especially.

The 61st anniversary of “Ocean’s 11” (1960) occurred on August 10, last. Ocean’s 11 / Lewis Milestone (1960). I seemed to have memories of watching this a long time ago. I remembered large chunks being just Frank and his Rat Pack hanging around hotel rooms and drinking heavily. Second time through though recently the film seems to have somehow tightened up quite a bit. Sinatra and Peter Lawford deliver good performances. I thought it notable that Frank and Dino don’t occupy center stage in every scene. Caesar Romero is around to steal a few scenes and Richard Conte shows us some outstanding acting. The caper climax is a classic. Danny Ocean (Sinatra) has a good plan (adapted and updated in the Clooney Pack movie). We are rooting for our slightly felonious friends to succeed so the sad/funny/life-ain’t-fair twist followed by the perfect end credits curtain call couldn’t be better. I have seen and liked all of the modern Ocean's films. Sort of have a Thing for caper films.

Watched it into the ground. I used to legit enjoy it, on DVD upon release. Then it began airing on seemingly every f'ing cable network for the next 10 yrs... which meant it would be on at friend's homes for the umpteenth time.
I actually really liked Ocean's Twelve until the stupid ending.
I don't think I will ever miss the 00's. Ever. lols
