Do they belong?
I honestly believe they're just going to keep putting up these names until they all get in. Allen didn't get in. I personally do not believe he's a HOFer (I don't believe Minoso or Oliva are HOFers either). But they keep putting all these names up until they get in. Maris will get in eventually (off 3 Hof seasons, the rest a big nope). Allen will get in. Wills wil get in. They all will .
Glad to see Buck O'Neil get in but the HOF isn't really a HOF anymore. Once Morris and Baines and other guys got in, it opened the door.
There needs to be a cap on how many times you can appear on a VC ballot. Like 3. Then you're done. Nothing has changed since the 15 original times you didn't get in and the other VC ballots. But every couple years is ridiculous.
What say you?

I have to play devil's advocate for a second. Going by baseball-reference, there have been a total of 22,564 players who have ever played major league baseball, and of those, 267 have been enshrined. That's just over 1% of total players.
Now I get that Harold Baines isn't everyone's favorite, but the notion that his enshrinement somehow belittles the value of the HOF, or makes it "not the HOF anymore" is a gross exaggeration. Before Baines, was the HOF a lesser body because of guys like Luis Aparicio and his career .311 OBP, or Red Ruffing, or.....Eppa Rixey? No. No, it was not.
Where I do agree with you though is the shortening of the candidacy. The 10 years (formerly 15) just gives the baseball writers more clout when it came to this stuff, trying to make guys wait as a means of standing on ceremony. Either a guy is worthy or he isn't.

The HOF quit being just for the Gehrig's and Aaron's of the baseball world a while ago. So be it. If Harold Baines and Ted Simmons go in, then why not Oliva and Dick Allen?
